Please help. I miss the Internet.

I've had it about to here with my Internet. I don't do fancy shit; I check my email, download a song or two from iTunes, and sometimes want to watch something on Hulu.

But that seems to be beyond the capabilities of my computer/router/modem/service.  It's annoying to see a video on a blog at work, think "oh, remember to watch that at home," then get ( Read more... )

I think we use TimeWarner (don't we all, like, have to in the City? Don't they have some monopoly?) and I really notice a slowdown when I'm working at home at 11am. But that "the internet is full" shit is crap. Before you switch services, since there might me nothing to switch to but Verizon, try this ( ... )

we do have timewarner. one regular cable box, one dvr cable box, and the internet cost us $123 a month.

Yeah, we do TimeWarner too, same stuff as the Kat(i)es for about the same amount, $120ish, and since moving to the current apartment I've pretty much had no trouble. There was maybe a day or two awhile ago when everything seemed to be going really slowly... but that hasn't happened in ages. Though I'm not on much from 9-12 so maybe there's a slowdown I don't see.

In my previous apartment, though, the connection would break off or get wonky all the time, and I'd have to do all of this resetting stuff. Since moving, I got a new router and that pretty much stopped happening.

I personally don't particularly trust Verizon and my limited experience with DSL (an office a bunch of years ago) has been that it's not as fast.

That total, or before taxes/extra fees? We pay much more-and have a couple premium channels, but not THAT many.

Maybe Brookyln's cheaper. :(

check the internet to see if time warner controls traffic for various websites? ATT was reining back download traffic for a while and it was totally killing me downloading everything from flash updates (25 minutes!) to television (11 days for an episode...11 DAYS).

I still wouldn't willingly use a cable modem though, so maybe verizon? (note: the previous sentence doesn't actually imply that I'm calling to switch our service, but I would totally have done dsl instead). You can get dsl through anyone, but you still have to pay verizon for the phone line, so why mess with two companies...the cheapest att phone line is under 10$ (so it prices out w/ dsl about like having a cable modem), although you have to insist to them you don't use the phone ever before they offer it to you: it only gives you like 20 local calls a month.

Yeah I'm trying to find out if anyone has/likes Verizon. UGH Internet sucks.

Hey, Scotty's going to be in town this weekend, he says. Dinner one night?

Verizon are evil bastards, but I like DSL. To be fair, ATT is crazy easy to deal with compared to our cable company, but my cable company in MS were good people and the cable modem was still slower and a pain in the ass. No point in switching now if you'd just need a new router anyway. My macbook has 1 gig and plays fine with the internets.

Yeah, I'm up for dinner. Have no idea if we have plans or what those plans might be, so might as well make some!

Kyle and I have Verizon DSL and it's great. Phone + internet for $50 a month (you have to buy a phone line to get DSL). Our wireless router is f-ed up, though, and neither of our two laptops can connect for any period of time, so we've taken to plugging in directly until we can get a new router ( ... )
