Huge fan of the books and have been since I read the first one in 1996. I just finished rereading the four books (so far) in the series a few weeks ago in anticipation of the show. I would say to wait on reading the books until AFTER you've seen the first series (based on the first book) because otherwise you'll be seriously spoiled and there are a lot of twists and turns you really don't want to miss. :)

Oops, and that was meant to include me saying yes, definitely watch the show. From everything I've seen/heard so far, it sounds like the show is going to be fantastic (and unlike something like True Blood), they're staying very true to the original source instead of doing stupid things with it.

The only George R. R. Martin book I ever read (and also own) is Tuf Voyaging. It has cats. ::chuckles:: Plus it's very well written.

As for screen adaptions, whether big or small screen, I always wind up preferring the books. ::chuckles:: That's just me, however. ::nods::

::comfles:: Eh... Life happens. Good and bad. I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience. Don't let it stop you from reaching out when you need to, though. ::hugs::
