I just started this LJ thing today so I don't quite know how this all works. Anyway I'm looking to meet other heathens, I did a search and found this place.
I'm 32, happily married and father of a two year old girl. Main interests include the younger futhark, the Vanic cult and Germanic history. I've been an Asatruar since 2005 and have gotten to know most of the kindreds around my area.
At this point I'm just reading a lot, soaking up as much knowledge of history and the lore as possible. So far the best books I've read aside from the Eddas are "Our Troth" Volume 1 & 2.
NIce to meet you Aelfred. The community seems a bit dead for now, expect things to heat up any time. LOL I have serious trouble remembering the futhark, either or any version so I stick to plain English. I've been a heathen for .... a long time. Memory is not what it should be. LOL I have yet to read Our Troth either volume but think they may be a good investment at some point. You may want to check out Kveldulf Gundarsson's "Teutonic Religion" and "Teutonic Magic". The originals are out of print but sometimes you can get lucky. The new revised versions are available for download from Freya Aswynn's site, and I'm sure others at $6 a pop, which ain't a bad deal.
Hi! Welcome! Sorry not to have seen and responded to this earlier.
As Freowyn said, it's been a bit quiet here recently--it has on most of the e-lists too, but I would still recommend e-lists as well as LJ-friending for getting to know fellow heathens. In your info, I see The Troth and the AFA listed, but I don't think you've yet found A Heathen Thing--we have a Yahoogroup (heathenthing) and boards. There are a myriad other Yahoogroups, too.
I'm assuming perhaps unwisely that you are in downstate/Metro Minnesota? If you're up north, Matt Reardon of Northlands Tribe is your man :-) Afraid I don't know of any other regional e-lists, but anthony_arndt will!
Feel free to post a topic here anyway, the more talk the better!
I'm in the Metro Area and have met up with most of the folks there. I did run into Anthony on LJ too. I've never heard of A Heathen Thing before, I'll check that out. ;)
