October (11):
The City & The City (China Miéville): Another SF Story by one of the masters of the "New Weird", this one takes place in two easten european cities that happen to be at the same place, and a murder case that becomes possible due to this fact. Sociopolitical commentry embedded in a wonderful tale.
Dylan Thomas - A Biography (Paul Ferris): A gift from my Mum (Hi Mum!) she picked up on her last trip to the UK.
The Dylan Thomas Omnibus (Dylan Thomas): I finally went and bought the collected Works of my favorite Poet, instead of having a small collection of small books.
Embassytown (China Miéville): A weird littel SF Story dealing with a very odd alien spiecies and an even weirder language. And how that language became cocaine. Might be interesting for some of you linguist fetish types, even if it doesn't really have anything to do with linguistics.
Die Foundation-Trilogie (Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Second Foundation) (Isaac Asimov): This is a nice collection of Asimov's reworking of the fall of the roman empire in space and probably his greatest creation (Just ignore that he tried to tie it to his Robot stories). The german collection includes a short essay on the real world developement of psychohistoy.
Illuminatus! (The Illuminatus! Trilogy) (Robert Shea & Robert A. Wilson): The original mad conspiracy story, based in part on every crackpot conspiracy the tabloids at the time were spinning and in part on the Principia Discordia. Literary madness, and yet not Joyce.
Kreativ Schreiben (Fritz Gesing): Let's just say it's not the best book on creative writing ever written, but not the worst one either, okay?
Memnoch the Devil (Anne Rice): Yes, I skipped Queen of the Damned and Tale of the Body-Thief. I never oned Queen, and I threw the Body-Thief out years ago. When I first read it this book was an Epiphany to me, it really spoke to me and my views on religion. It's still a great book, but it's not quite the great book it was then. Still not quite sure why it's in the Vampire Chronicles though.
The New York Trilogy (Paul Auster): I have no idea why I like Auster. I shouldn't really. But the guy has... something. I just wish I knew what it is that draws me back in.
Supernova (Iron Sunrise) (Charles Stross): The Follow-up to last month's Singularity Sky, this book leans more towards the Space Opera side of things, and less to the Transhumanist side, though elements are still there and it's still a brilliant book.
The Wolf Gift (Anne Rice): Yes, Anne Rice has written a completely new and original Novel. No, it's got nothing to do with Vampires. Yes, it's actually very good, she's almost back to her best with this one.
