That's just-

If they're not human, but they treat others nicely, how can that make them bad? Could there be a part of them still human, too?

Even if they hurt others... maybe, just maybe.

[ooc; Reference! Don't mind her, she's just confused and it hits that darker half >_>;]

Why is being 'good' synonymous with humans?

It might be the concept of humanity and compassion that's tied with humans, and what others feel that those who aren't human lack.

Yeah. I hate stereotypes.

... Stereotypes?

I suspect that depends on how you define being human.

Free will, compassion, and sympathy. But I am younger to most of you, so there is much ahead of me before I truly know.

Well. If that's how you define it, and they don't have any free will, compassion or sympathy, then I doubt you'd want to call them good.

But aren't those what define a human? How they are connected to friends, loved ones, and families? But even then, humans are as flawed as any other beings, they have a dark half, too. Inevitably, the true question is there much of a difference with any of us, in the end? If we feel compassion and companionship to others?

...Just when I was going to bed.

It's not that hard to understand. Humans tend to reject or otherwise eliminate those who are different or superior to them.

Then humankind sometimes doesn't have much room to talk when they speak out against others.

voice seeking_heat June 20 2009, 05:37:16 UTC
No, they don't. But it's not that humans destroy them out of hatred. If these "different and superior beings" lived among society, they would pose a danger to normal lives.

Though, given this society's populace, one would expect a change in attitude about it. I guess it would only apply to those who do actually threaten lives.

But maybe this place will force us to coexist more. Though if they've lived for so long, some won't choose that, will they?

That's true, but how badly do they threaten humans?

What do you think makes a person human?

alldevouring June 20 2009, 05:51:43 UTC
Maybe I'm not sure, anymore. But I like to think love, maybe. Isn't that the most powerful emotion, after all?

I believe Albert Einstein would agree with you.

"A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

It's almost a shame... as powerful as love is, we are, still in fact, flawed. Too stubborn in our beliefs and nature to sometimes overlook how simple that is. But it's never impossible.

Human is a word to designate species, I think what you may be searching for is humane. There are many non-human species that are humane, and many humans who are inhumane.

What have you met that has you so concerned, Hotaru?

[ooc: More vampires FTW! I'm sure this won't confuse the poor girl AT ALL.]

You're most definitely right; the word would be humane, wouldn't it? That's unfair to generalize others who can be just as human, but might not be.

A woman named Marishka. Someone told me that she was a vampire and has hurt others in the past.

[ooc; You all break Hotaru's brain, but Mistress 9 is intrigued D:]

A... vampire? And that one, she keeps popping up, doesn't she?

Well, not having met her I can't speak to her intentions, but in my world? Vampires are capable of living without hurting others, and many have chosen to do so after centuries of using humans as food.

She didn't seem so bad... at first. But now I'm not so sure.

Mm, blood transfusions, in a way?
