The Cesspool That Is 746's Mind

“I’d like to thank you all for being here, gentlemen, lady.”  The lecturer acknowledged the single woman in the room with a little nod of the head and a patronising leer.  “I am very excited that you have been able to make it for what is likely to be the learning experience of the century.  As you are aware, subject 746 has been the cause of some ( Read more... )

You took this story to a place I could not have imagined, and that is not easy to do. I'm impressed! It somehow seems appropos, though, that 746 was in fact the victim all along. You've even managed to make this seem a bit cute in its, retelling, what with Dr. Green's giddiness, especially (the "Clearly" line almost choked me with a snort.) Except, of course, for the whole dying victim, I suppose... though, nice they were finally able to give him some peace, after two years of torture. If only they could have avoided torturing him for two years! Hmmm.... maybe you should do a revisit of 746, where his ghost comes back to haunt Dr. Green, for turning his mind INTO the maniacal psychopath that his body had been in life, a la Bedlam. Anyway, fabulous, as usual.

It was interesting because I had no idea what would be in 746's head. I felt that the original story was one of my best, one of those inspired by a muse and not really written by me things, and I wasn't sure what I could do to top that. Then the topics came up, Java was a brilliant co-conspirator and this is what came out. And it seemed perfectly logical that a tiny little man had been pulling the strings all along!

I love Dr. Green's attempts to be "cool" after the initial reaction to finding tiny furniture embedded in the subject's head.

Had I known that I was working with such a malformed individual, my approach would have been very, very different. How this poor man has survived for so long like this is a miracle in itself. Oh well. He’s on the slab now, so we might as well plunge the depths. Onwards.”
"Survived" is a bigger question than he realizes, according to java_fiend's story.

We were treating the wrong subject.
Well, to be fair, who would have thought?

I see that the law DID finally catch up to Dr. Churchill's evil ways. And once you realize what efforts he went to, just to be able to prove his experiment and run riot with crime... he clearly was even more disturbed than Dr. Green would have thought. :0

There's so much more to this that we could explore given the time and appropriate prompts. I really love where Java took it - there are now all sorts of depths and directions it could go in.
