No Schadenfreude over Ted Stevens...even if I wish there were

Being opposed to drilling in ANWR, I want to be excited by news like this: Corruption!

But really, it just disgusts me.  I don't care if you have different politics than me; can't you at least be ethical about it?  I like to believe that everyone honestly has different opinions about how to improve our world.  No simple solution = people disagree.  ( Read more... )

Daniels did it for a few reasons.

One, his tenure is running hard and thin.

Two, he can't afford to build more power plants, or pay for places to use the ones we've got. With Indiana still growing in size (quickly!), meaning that government institutions will only proliferate alongside populations, the budget would spiral worse than ever with high energy costs alongside government investment in these sort of techniques.

In other words, he's doing the right thing for the bottom line, not because he thinks it's right. Agreeing with what he's doing is okay... but it's just as okay in politics to make clear that you don't agree with why someone's doing it.

<3, btw.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I absolutely know why he did it. But if a good thing gets done for the wrong reason...well, at least his political pandering resulted in something worthwhile both fiscally and environmentally. It's a nice change of pace from his "Sell everything so that I can get credit for balancing the budget, but then leave the state with nothing to produce revenue from in the future" Plan that he's been carrying out for 3 years (in that it's not necessarily the cheapest option right now, but it will be with time.)

The interesting thing about the year leading up to elections is that politicians start acting like they think their constituents want them to. Which is, of course, not always a good thing.

Have you seen the new commercial for Obama? It has an egg and is suppose to symbolize hope. And when you have hope it turns into a baby chick? If not, you should to find it. I couldn't stop laughing, it was so politically tasteful, yet not...

Haha...yeah, I actually have seen it. Usually the ads that get talked about I never see, but this one... yeah, I saw it. After a moment of stunned silence, the person I was watching television with and I simply turned to one another and exchanged utterly baffled looks.

*skeptical*...At least it's not attack campaigning???
