IC:
Character name: Phoenix Wright
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Timeline: Post AJ
Age: 34
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:

He has a pokerface, and Kristoph can't read it. He uses a mask to throw people off-- very rarely is Phoenix caught off of his guard. He can read people very well (although Trucy's ability to perceive is natural, and he tends to ask for her help occasionally), and his ability at lying is even better. Whilst some might be able to see through that-- (close friends or family), Phoenix generally remains quite the enigma to many people, which is exactly how he likes it. Long gone are the days he was an attorney, instead replaced with important poker tournaments and lazy attempts at playing the piano. He's a very intelligent man, but through paranoia and necessity, he keeps everything to himself and rarely opens up.

He also carries with him something called a Magatama, which he received in his lawyering days. It's a magical stone shaped like a '9', and within it holds the power to spot a secret hidden within someone's soul. Everyone has secrets, however, and because the Magatama is draining on both spiritual and physical energy, he rarely uses it unless he feels he has to. ALSO, not exactly an ability, but Phoenix would have made sure to bring his beloved plant Charley. It's... just an ordinary plant, filled with sentimental value.

Appearance:

Phoenix has bright blue, and strangely honest eyes-- especially when compared to the rest of the man. He sports a turquoise beanie that reads 'papa' in bright pink styled lettering on the side. His hat also houses a large badge which is actually a reappearance of Ema Skye's old pins back from one of Phoenix's first cases. Inside this badge there is a camera, though he tends to keep that information, and whatever is on it, to himself.

Under the hat he has jet black hair that naturally spikes out, and because he tends to leave his gel alone these days, the spikes are wonky and even lazily spiking out. His beanie also hides his peculiar eyebrows which, at the ends, zig zag out. He's always seen with a five o'clock shadow, as opposed to his lawyer days in which he was clean shaven every day.

Around his neck, he wears a locket that holds a picture of his adopted daughter, Trucy, when she was eight years old. He wears a large grey zip up hoodie with a single deep blue stripe going down each arm. Underneath that, he wears a simple white fitted t shirt. His pants are black, and his feet are adorned by shabby looking sandals.

Background/Personality:

Phoenix was once a man who attempted to please everyone else on a daily basis. He made an extra effort at keeping his very sarcastic and cynical mouth shut, instead fixating on what he thought he needed to be to get ahead. He's been known to change his personality and grow throughout the series, for instance: When he was in college, he dumbed himself down in the hopes to get a girlfriend, and he a wore pink sweater whilst exclaiming in a court of law that his girlfriend 'doesn't poop'. A few years later, he reappeared and had apparently grown up enough to realize the error of his fashionable ways (granted, the pink sweater was a gift) and to appreciate the fine art of acting polite when really being cynical and sarcastic.

During his lawyering days, he set everything about himself aside. Other people were more important than his own development; he had to help Edgeworth and every innocent client that wandered into his life either by mistake or by force. His goals were purely other peoples happiness as opposed to his own-- and although he enjoyed being a lawyer, he hadn't wandered down his own life's path until his disbarment took effect. It took something hard to accept to force him along a path he probably would never have noticed had he kept his badge; he wouldn't have adopted Trucy, he wouldn't have put a mass maniac behind bars (with Apollo's help, of course), and he wouldn't have realized how flawed the system can truly be. His naive optimism might have diminished, but it would have diminished much slower and with the stripping of his badge, he began to see the systems faults, which, in turn, forced him to grow up all the more. He could no longer hide behind the truth and expect everything to 'work out in the end'; he had to take action to manipulate the odds into his favor.

Throughout the games, Phoenix becomes more and more jaded, which, when disbarred, finally leads onto the Phoenix we know today. He's still just as clever as before, but instead of running his mouth, he generally keeps his important thoughts to himself, and allows his unimportant, sarcastic comments to be spoken aloud whenever he feels the need (which is fairly often). By keeping his thoughts quiet and dressing down to appear sloppy, he instantly gained the benefit of the doubt. People would assume subconsciously that Phoenix wasn't a threat, and he would use that to his advantage.

Even now that he's sarcastic openly, it's still easy to see that he believes in the truth above all else, and although his methods have become somewhat uncaring of the law, his heart is definitely in the right place. He's a lot more sacrificing than he used to be, (especially towards new members of the law, such as Apollo and his license) and a lot more confident in the things he believes in. He thought that by presenting Apollo with forged evidence, it wouldn't have any repercussions at all, and whilst some might argue that he's incredibly selfish, it's more likely that he used it as a means to an end.

He has a tendency to ignore those who don't interest him long enough, allowing himself to go off into his own world and contemplate things that are, in his opinion, much more interesting. Phoenix has a habit of talking in riddles; he never gives anyone any information someone might need outright. He figures it would be beneficial for newcomers, like Apollo, to figure things out for themselves whilst he gives them a gentle prod (or in some cases, harsh shove) towards the right direction. In Phoenix's eyes, something worth learning is worth fighting for.

Phoenix holds his friendships in high regard; when he trusts someone, he trusts them with his life (unless they do something untrustworthy!). Kristoph left Phoenix with a heightened sense of paranoia, and it's something that will take a long time to for him to get over. He was forced to push everyone who was close to him away to hold onto what he knew was important at the moment just to prove himself innocent. He didn't want the people he cared about to be caught in the crossfire, and although he missed everyone deeply, he had to hold off on contact and act distant. Throughout this period in his life, his love for Trucy and her love for him kept him sane. She quickly became a very important part of his life; if he ever found everything closing on him and had trouble coping with his double life, he would think of her and everything would quickly seem manageable again.

1st person sample:

[Absently, his hands reached into his pockets and he finally pulled out the very book that had been weighing his hoodie down. Blue eyes took in every detail as his hands slid over it with ease.]

'Don't Panic!', huh? Wiser words were never spoken.

[He flipped through the book with a raised eyebrow and took in the information. Hey, a free room!]

Well, let's get this party started.

3rd person sample:

Apparently, people don't appreciate when men queue jump, slosh drinks all over their paperwork and then insist that, "hey, it didn't matter-- there's plenty more paper where that came from anyway." In fact, not only is it not appreciated, it actually gets you thrown out, which is something Phoenix found out with quite a bit of amusement. At least he had filled his paperwork out-- or, at least, he had filled out a good half before he decided his wrist was hurting and paid someone else to do it-- he just didn't specify the payment. He paid the guy a compliment, and suddenly he found himself thinking, once again, about what people do and don't appreciate.

Either way, the forms had been completed and Phoenix was aching for a nap. It had been a long day, and as he set Charley down to stretch out, he couldn't help but let out a loud yawn. With a slow wandering of his eyes, he decided that it was probably time to seek out his room and slip into a deep sleep. His mind had already been racing with thoughts of where he was, what he'd do-- he worried for Trucy, and he worried for friends he hadn't spoken to for years. He could show a feeling of ease and even amusement, but really, he was worried sick. But that was a face he could only show himself, a face he could only use when he was sure he was alone and away from prying eyes. He sank into a seat and slid his fingers under his hat, prying it off swiftly and staring into the camera loftily. He smiled a wry, cynical smile and set the beanie down gently as he ran his hands through his hair and let out a breath he wasn't aware he'd been holding.

Had he been the only survivor? Could he live with the knowledge he had-- with the knowledge that his daughter had been lost to him, that all of the friends he loved and loathed to lose contact with because of necessity would eventually perish? Was he really alone?

He didn't do too well alone.
