i agree that there are some "foreign film" aspects to closer, but it's directed by mike nichols, a very accomplished american director in his own right. have you ever seen 'carnal knowledge'? it's like 'closer,' only made 30 years before. also a nichols film. i think a better one, only because it doesn't have julia roberts.
well, before everyone decided to jump on the bandwagon, i really appreciated 'closer' for its characters and very raw, intense dialogue. it's a total atmosphere film, very much in the vein of 'lost in translation,' only with actual character development.
watching it a couple more times, i notice some flaws in it here and there. but i think the dialogue is still quite fresh and witty - you must remember it's based on a play, and so it still upholds that format. clive owen was great in it.
