haha, I like that. You're a good writer though dude, if what I've seen on your journal is yours. It's hard to have the ability to pain a picture, and you have it. I'd love to be a writer but the chances of me putting all my insecurities behind me and getting off my ass to accomplish something are pretty hefty goals. I'm certainly anxious for the change, though!
I don't think you'll have much difficulty writing.
The question is how do you push through the wall of procrastinations and insecurities and write. Separate the writer from the editor--they're different sides of the brain, after all. It's so hard to not edit while I write, and yet... it's necessary. If I'm to get anything on paper, I must write first, edit later.
I was talking with mofo_x today about poetry. I've a degree in poetry, if you can believe it. And yet, I've come to hate so much of it. Because so much of the poetry out there is pure, untrained drivel. By the same token, my own writing often doesn't measure up to my own standards.
I've only now, after five years away, come to the point where I can start creating without criticizing my own stuff immediately. Both poetry and fiction.
But hey, congratulations on the acceptance. It means they've belief in your ability, faith in your potential and hope for your future.
you go to naropa right? im about to enter my junior year and the only college I've found that's "me" in a sense is naropa.
I was just wondering if, you do infact go to naropa, that you could give me a brief description of what it's like. I've read the website over and over but I still havent got' and inkling of how "exclusive" this school is, how hard it is to get in etc etc.
apologies, my friend, but i don't go to naropa... yet.
this entry is three years old and is in reference to my acceptance into an Arts High School. I am currently entering my sophomore year at a community college, but i am working to acquire my generals and transfer to a more prestigeous school next year.
the only insider information i can tell you is that Laird something or other is an instructor at Naropa, and he came to speak to my writing group in high school -- and he was a very cool guy. You could try emailing him, he was very responsive and happy to answer questions about the school. His email is somewhere on the Naropa website, i'm sure.
but if you are a junior in HS, it sounds like we will be vying for a spot at that school around the same time.
