New York was fantastic as usual. I loved being able to see Hannah and we loved Les Miz! Probably me more so than her, but that's understandable since I AM the Broadway geek.
Mmk so! While we're picking up our tickets at the Broadhurst, I see that there are 4 understudies on. And ALL of them for major roles.
I freak.
Alas, I was not disappointed. I really kind of made a bad generalization about understudies - probably due to the fact that I had read up on cast members and was excited to see the originals - but they were all great. Brief synopsises:
Jeff Kready as Jean Valjean - I have no qualms, he was quite good. As any Valjean should be, I suppose.
Drew Sarich as Javert - fantastic! He played the role flawlessly. I think he must have been made for antagonist characters; he did very very well. I was quite impressed.
Victor Hawks as Thenardier - he played the part very well. I had no qualms with him either.
Megan McGinnis as Eponine - Wonderful! I totally fell in love with Eponine and her portrayal of her. She really captured an essence of her that I probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Kudos to her!
As far as other roles went... Lea Salonga did very well as Fantine, I especially liked her acting during "Come to Me". Loved Adam Jacobs as Marius (great voice and cute too!) and Ali Ewoldt as Cosette was fine, fit the role well. Max von Essen could have been better at Enjorlas; I don't think he was as striking to me as a character as he could have been. Everyone seems to diss Ann Harada as Mdme. Thenardier but I rather enjoyed her... hmm...
Tomorrow I start my first day of the FOX News internship... eek! Will continue that Tuesday and then leave for Duke/Chapel Hill on Wednesday to visit Shannon and finally get an offical UNC tour for the records. ahaha. Then working all weekend.
This all beats school by a long run. Definitely want to skip the school parts of senior year already.
