this sounds great. how does it work out to not book hostels in advance? I usually book before I go, but during my "exile" I think I'll want some flexibility. I might be going to Italy too.

Well see, we did book ahead of time but because Elliot stayed an extra day we booked them seperately. We've been finding hostels on HostelWorld.com If you to Rome (I don't know if you have ever been but it was amazing) stay with Funny Palace, the guys were great, they gave us a map and a route of what we should do each day, and if Elliot hadn't already made this ridiculous itinerary it would have been very useful. I can't say much about the room because they upgraded us to the really nice one, but we were barely in the room anyway. Everyone in Rome was friendly, it was pretty easy to get along not knowing any Italian and every meal was the best meal of my life.

also: if you want something cool from spain, you should give me some ideas. you have time to mull it over. but it's got to be kind of small....
