Allie You were immediately in my thoughts when I saw the news this morning. I know the two of shared a birthday and had been room-mates at college. Your response to the Birtwell family post brought tears to my eyes. Rachel is with her Heavenly Father now and we can be comforted in that, but it's still rough for those of us left.
I had tentative plans to visit her next spring. We'd briefly talked about it via email. I regret that I will never get to make that trip.
It was through you that Rachel and I met. Thank you for that.
Hard to know what to say. I hadn't talked to Rachel very much in a while, largely as when we used to talk it was on IM and when we were bought a few years ago much of that was disabled through their network. It's very sad that she passed, but I'm also very happy that she's with our Lord and Saviour, not having to worry any more about any physical pain and problems, forever rejoicing and praising God in an eternally perfect manner.
I talked a couple of times about Bible verses with Rachel, and I know that she thought that John 3:16 was the core of the Bible message - as it is. However, I often thought of 1 John 3:16 when I thought of Rachel: "By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers." Somehow laying down our lives for others made me think of Rachel, as she was always the most giving person no matter what she was going through.
I will pray for both Rachel's family and you, that you will feel God there, holding your hand, and carrying you during this time of loss.
Thank you, and thank you especially for sharing the verse. Rachel's legacy of light will go on as long as her friends do, but she would be the first to remind me that her light was only a reflection of the Lord's.

She's in a much better place now and I'm sure she's loving every second of it.
Keeping this short because I'll start to cry again if I don't.
Love ya!
