Waah! Scary stuff!
You really should read this carefully and now."... 250 foreign children are locked up. Almost all are American, but though kept prisoner, they were not sent here by a court of law. Their parents paid to have them kidnapped and flown here against their will, to be incarcerated for up to three years, sometimes even longer. They ( Read more... )

i read a similiar thing about some christian place, that someone in anti anti gay was talking about. some poor gay kid was sent to this place to be straightened out. it had a whole load of bullshit like women must shave their arms and legs twice a week, men must give them the comfy seats and open doors for them, and told them what clothes they could and couldn't wear ( ... )

"they are like the old fashioned laundrettes they had in ireland"

Yeah, good point. I was too dumb to make this connection myself.

its not a case of being dumb! its just a case of recognising stuff, or something :) its scarey that those things still exist, scarier too that they are legal! that you can basically imprison your child, against their will, because until they are 18, they are yours to do what you want with.

These parents need to realize that it is not their place to control their children, but to teach them control. People who don't have the patience and dedication to raise children are usually the ones who end up with the "bad" ones. I believe that alot of these children are just trying to get their parents to pay them some attention for a change. Of course, there are always exceptions. You may be a wonderful parent and still have major problems with your child(ren) but that is no excuse to give up on them and send them off to get their limbs restrained and their brain washed.

sometimes it isn't even aboitu misbehaving, they do it if their kid is gay, or their kid is a goth, or interested in sex at an age they think is too young, or not christian enough, or anything like that. its just that for some reason some parents think that kids are meant to be clones of themselves, not people in their own right.

From Part 2 of the article, on why parents send their kids here --

"Drugs feature high among reasons for choosing Tranquility, although addicts who need detox are not accepted. Running away from home, sleeping around, or being expelled from school are also typical. Some kids have been in trouble with the police. Others had been in court, where their parents persuaded the judge to let them send their child to Tranquility, rather than issue his own punishment. Other students were sent here for wearing inappropriate clothes, using bad language, or hanging around with the wrong sort of friends."

IMHO -- in other words, many teenagers were sent here for being teenagers.

yep. seems that way. and perhaps the parents should question why the poor kids had to run away from home! its fucking awful that these people are encouraging parents to think that there is something wrong with thier kids, that this sort of behaviour is wrong and fixable. its like the stepford wives only real and more worrying!

These are IMHO very standard brainwashing techniques.

They are standard brainwashing techniques. Including in particular the whole system of rewards and punishments, encouraging inmates to "buy in" to the doctrines of the program, making release contingent upon absolute obedience not only in actions but in thoughts, etc. It's by-the-book brainwashing.
