We're not responsible for calling out other people's karma and I personally think it's bad karma to take joy in such.
That aside. I think there's a problem in the reasoning that destroying someone's home to build commercial property would increase tax revenue considering most businesses find ways to pay as little tax as possible.
I'm certain a friend's farm will be caught in this - developers been trying to snag his familial plot for ages, and he's refused (he's the seventh generation on the land, and feels keeping its a point of honor). Time will tell.
