YES! This is exactly how I feel about people who use one quote from the Bible to excuse their hatred, prejudice, and discrimination against homosexuals.

I love every single one who backed up me and my people. All in all, the government shouldn't use the Bible as a basis to determine how I should live MY life. Either way you look at it, the gay-marriage ban is completely discriminatory and hateful and it really hurts that a few people who think their "morals" should be enforced on everyone different from them got away with what they did on election day; and it sucks because here they are making decisions greatly affecting my life in a negative way and all I can do it sit and watch. Oh, and it really means a lot to me that you guys back up gay people, and what means even more is how I know you would all feel the same way whether or not you knew me. I..love...all...of....you. More than you know.

Why am I always late in these conversations? Then I feel like a big stoop head three days later when I voice my opinion on the matter.

bah. I think I might want to add my two cents. Well...I was talking with Andrew this morning and decidedly, I don't think every single part of the Bible should be taken so literally. It really is a good thing to base your life on, but some things aren't supposed to be so literal. You know, do as you wish. It's to one's own belief and I don't think that we should force our own beliefs, or anyone else's for that matter, on anyone. People should be able to marry whoever they want to marry. There's always something that's going to offend someone.

First of all, you are not alone, there are more than plenty of people who agree with you (after-all, look at the outcome of Proposal 2 and elections like it around the country)- and who's to say we are totally against you? And if you are implying we are Goliath, that's not fair. Stop judging us because we have different beliefs than you. If you look at it, you are the one who attacked us when Al posted an entirely positive journal; you're not the victim, and, as said above, it seems as though you and the people who hold your beliefs outnumber me and my people, so it would be appropriate to say that WE are David ( ... )

I'm going to walk on eggshells here and just mention a few things...

yet, if we falsify God, even if we say that he got this one subject wrong, that falsifies him entirely, makes him infinitely less than perfect, not worthy of our praise because he would then be on our level. His perfection is the basis of my little bit of faith.

I don't believe we're falsifying God and I don't believe we're saying he got this wrong. I think the Bible is what we're debating here, not God. The perfection of God is not, and cannot be, expressed through, or based on, the words of men, in a book.

Is there an absolute Truth? And yet, are we perhaps shackling government, because we are starting to accept any form of truth? Could it go so far that we couldn't enforce any standard on anyone, because it would be discriminatory to their beliefs?Yes, it could go that far. Will it? I doubt it. I'd have to say I think we're a pretty moderate country. Do we go to that many extremes? Yes, we're in a war. That's pretty extreme. I think, though, if you ( ... )
