The second part of the double feature: the 1938 version of The Dawn Patrol.

While remakes of movies are nothing new, I did find it odd when I realized that the 1938 version of The Dawn Patrol was made a mere eight years after the original. Still, I was curious to see if the new filmmakers, writers, and actors would improve on the weaknesses of the ( Read more... )

I've only seen the 1938 movie. I thought it was pretty good, but rather depressing. I've never had the inclination to see it again.

Understandably so; I don't have much desire to see it again either. As I said in my last paragraph, I don't know if I prefer the '30 or '38 version, though I do think you may have ended up thinking the '30 version was slightly more depressing, given the rawer emotions on display. At least you got to see some of the impressive aerial stunts, even if they weren't exactly original...
