How do you like Portland? Why, esli NE secret, you decided to move there. My husband loves Portland, wants to move there in some near future, but I am not sure that I would like it, too much rain :)We also have lived in Long Island, NY, I loved it there. Now we live in Santa Barbara, not fan of it sadly..
I love it! We moved here last February, and I think the rain horror are definitely exaggerated :) Maybe we also lucked out a bit because it has been a drier year.
Basically, we've lived in NYC for many years (12 for me), and were getting tired of it. Also, it was becoming less and less affordable, especially after having a child. We wanted to move to the West Coast for a while, actually. We went on a road trip through most of the West coast in 2012 and really liked Portland. Both of us freelance, so the location is not critical for us. And Portland seemed to have a good balance of affordability, culture/city life, and beautiful and really accessible nature.
There is a ton of great restaurants, coffee shops, music venues, etc. At the same time, I can be out at multiple u-pick farms, hikes, Columbia River gorge and such in 30 min. If you drive for 1.5 hours, you can end up on the coast or on Mt Hood, St Helen, and a bunch of other places. So yeah, definitely happy with it :)
Your last paragraph and last sentence of the previous one-is almost exactly how my husband seduce me about Portland and living there:)i like all of that too, my main concern was weather but maybe I am a bit overreacting. :) with kids getting older it will not going to be an issue, I just hoped that when time will come for us to move there, Portland is going to be still affordable.))
