I learned it as "rushing," but it is fun to see the variations throughout different camps.

You know, I guess we can't blame regional differences then..since your camp was like 10 miles away from mine!

OoooOOO I love that song too. I've heard it both ways and also was told that the real version is Wild Horse to Slushy for the same reason you discovered - its the name of places. My guess is that people who learned it from hearing it didn't think it made sense and re-sang it as wild horses running. Either way it still sounds good. I'm always amused by the what's different in the camp songs that are so similar. Universal but the oddest things changed. And its especially terrific when you're singing with someone and everything is going well and then suddenly you're staring at each other singing different words in the same tune. Or the same words in a different tune. Those are great moments!

SO true! I noticed the most change when I was in Minnesota. The camps that I worked at before, were both in Northern california, so the range was smaller..but I def. ran into big time differences in the midwest.

i actually work near san gorgonio where the song gained fame after a girl scout was found dead after hiking in the back country with the lyrics in her backpack. the 4 spots the song mentions are actually local areas:
wild horse
slushy
dry lakes
the peaks
the lyrics dont make sense unless you know the area...hence the change.
i miss you!
