title: Me and the Moon
word count: 200+
notes: written for #084 Moon of  my 300 prompts.

Sometimes I go outside at night, when the moon is big and full. Hanging heavy in the sky. Driving ocean waves crazy.

Driving me crazy.

I remember nights when we were both looking up at the same moon. Nights when you felt so much closer than you were. Nights when you felt just as far away as the man smiling down on us.

I wish I could bring those days back. Bring you back. Hear your voice. Your heartbeat as I hold you close. My head on your chest just listening to you breath. The soft inhale and exhale of air. The sounds that used to calm, but whose memories now haunt me.

I sit out in my front lawn staring up at the moon. Remembering me and you. All those fond, but far away memories. Wishing on every shooting star that catches my eye that you'll come back to me someday. That I'll see you when day breaks. Walking up the street and straight to me as the sun peaks over the horizon. Framing you in soft dawn light.

Until then it's just me and the moon. My only friend. My one true love. The only one who always comes back to me. No matter how much I curse and scream and wish to never see it again.

It never lets me down, but that's all you ever were.
