I also avoid volunteering for certain clubs because they're so stingy with their food, water, thank yous, etc. I can understand how a small, new club doesn't have enough money to give a lot of people vouchers for future entries (although I don't really see how you can lose on those)but club members can surely bake a pan of brownies or buy some cookies for the workers to eat. And they can make something hot to eat for lunch when it's an outdoor trial in the winter and everyone is freezing cold and not just put out a plate of crappy cold cuts and supermarket bread. That just chafes my butt bigtime and makes me resolve not to attend their trials at all.

I hear you! I love the dog events that make the workers feel appreciated.

I've been thinking on blogging on this topic myself. You just did it for me. Hear, here.

Be nice to me, appreciate my effort (even if I screw up a little - I'm only human), don't expect me not to warm up, cool down, potty and walk my course because I did pay for these classes. I'll help when I can, but I'm a lot less likely to go out of my way and inconvenience myself to do it these days.

Yes, kindness and appreciation are essential. And when running multiple dogs has its challenges. And some dogs need more "prep time" than others. Tristan really needs his potty break and he doesn't like to go in front of other dogs (he's such a gentleman), so we have to find just the right spot. It takes some time.

I also was a bit surprised when I found out how many of the ring crew get free entries or other remuneration.
