Who: Batman and Superman
What: JLA Meeting Afterparty
Where: Fortress of Solitude
As the rest of the League wandered off to do their respective duties, including Leland, whom Batman sent off with little more than a wave and a grim look, Batman loitered in the Fortress as he knew he was expected to. When the door finally closed behind the last member after what seemed like an eternity of waiting, he continued to look down at his gloves and avoid facing the situation that he knew he should man up to, so to speak. Superman's soft footfalls behind him made him look up, and they met eyes briefly before he diverted his.
One hand moved unconsciously up to the cowl and he made to take it off before thinking better of that choice. Despite the fact that he did not need the disguise and the heat of the suit was making him dizzy, he didn't feel comfortable taking it off just yet. Taking it off would mean he was Bruce again. Bruce couldn't face Superman looking down at his feet like a guilty child. Bruce wasn't as confident or as strong as Batman could be.
"I meant what he said earlier." He didn't disguise his voice. "It wasn't an excuse. I hope you know that."
