Jon cocked his head slightly at the other man, considering his reaction carefully. He supposed it was only strange coincidence that brought them to the Asylum at the same time; Harvey was, after all, Lex's best friend, not to mention his... interesting relationship with Jo- Doctor Leland.
It had been a long time since the exes had seen each other. Too long, and not quite long enough. But they had both apparently gained some semblance of mental stability: Harvey once again, Jon almost for the first time, and when had they ever been on footing quite this even?
"Harvey, hey. How, um..." he indicated the asylum with a nod. "You just come from Lex?"
"Yeah," Harvey replied softly, glancing back to the wing of the asylum where he knew his friend was lodged.
"I imagine that's where you're headed." He shoved his hands into his coat pockets and stood awkwardly for a few moments, looking everywhere but at Jon.
"Hey, uh... Listen. If you're going to go see him, hang a left and continue down the hall until you reach the staircase at the end. Third floor, second cell on the right. The guard's name is Jenkins-you got that? Tell him you were going to visit Lex with me but got caught up in traffic or something. You know if Leland finds you she'll toss you into a cell right next to Lex's."
Harvey had leaned quite close to deliver the whispered instructions but now straightened, looking boldly into familiar blue eyes.
"And, uh... Sorry if he- I- we threatened you at any point in the last few months."
"I appreciate the apology, but I'm not exactly on the moral high ground," Jon shrugged. "I knew it wasn't you." Or wasn't the sane or rational part of him, at any rate. But hell, that was practically normal for Gotham. A little mind-splintering crazy wasn't insurmountable, Jon of all people knew that.
"Thanks for the directions." Jon started to turn towards the stairs, but paused and turned halfway to Harvey again, hands in his pockets fidgeting with a scrap of burlap. He didn't take the mask everywhere any more, but he kept a scrap of fabric to run his fingers over, to keep his hands busy.
"Sorry for, you know, going completely balls-to-the-wall crazy on you." Like there was really a delicate way to put it.
Harvey winced at the reminder but smiled at Jon's colorful language.
"Hey," he said gently. "You want to maybe have this conversation somewhere other than the steps of an asylum?" Harvey jerked his head in the direction of the courtyard and led Jon around the side of the building. He took a seat on one of the stone benches, the very one where he had sat with Leland all those months ago while she patiently lectured him on his self-destructive behavior.
"So. You were apologizing for going nuts on me, yeah? I think we both know that as unsettling as that was, you had good cause to be upset. I'm sorry for what happened, and for you saw that day. It can't have been pleasant for you, and both Bruce and I have regretted it ever since. Neither of us wanted to hurt you."
