Eight - Might Be A Little Angry

The Titans... they... how do they think they'll get away with this?! There's no way they can cover up something like that, and anyone who'd take their side would have to be insane ( Read more... )

But... but that's-

But that's ridiculous! First of all how the hell could they even gather the resources and manpower to make a colony laser and not arouse suspicion! And then to just kill all those people-!

The sheer number of factions makes it easier to lose track of a colony than you'd think, especially when the faction in question is one of the most powerful.

But to then go and kill so many...

And to think they did it practically on a whim...

Miss Athha, they are going to get a lot of flack for that. That kind of thing isn't something people just forget about in a day.

It can't just-just be getting flak. This can't just be a PR problem. If I had the weapons... the resources... I'd already be making plans to deal with them.

Destroying a whole colony'll get the whole Earth sphere lined up against you.

At the very least it'll get ME going against you, and that's almost as bad.

Then let's do something about it! One big push could leave them reeling, and then other groups like the AEUG could finish the job while we deal with the next threat.

You'd be surprised what people can choose to ignore. The Titans run on the ends supposedly justifying the means, and their supporters are generally blind enough to buy into that.

Those supporters have to be a minority, especially now... I can't see how anyone can justify that much senseless death.

They're the same as Blue Cosmos, really, only with a different target - all Spacenoids instead of all Coordinators. They're also, like Blue Cosmos, probably just doing it to profit from the chaos, but if you can make people fear your enemies and choose sides...

Fear... if only there was a way to force people to think about what they feared...

[A sigh.]

But then you'd be just as bad in a different way.

I wish it would be that easy. But now, even when people condemn what they did, they're going to be harder to deal with than ever. Something on the scale of a colony laser is meant for deterrence...and the Titans have proven that they aren't afraid to use it.

But we have weapons just as powerful! On mobile suits! Why aren't they scared of us? What makes them think they can actually get away with that?

We may have the weapons, but we don't use them as indiscriminately. The men in command of the Titans are amoral and power-hungry. They don't see anything wrong with massacring colonists -- whom they already consider their inferiors -- to prove a point, and they look at the GDF and our methods of operation and consider us weak for it.

Have you heard the line, "There is no good or evil, only power and those who seek it?" That's essentially the philosophy of groups such as the Titans and A-LAWS.

And we have to keep ourselves under control and not attack the Titans indiscriminately, to be the good guys who care about something other than power. But if we didn't have power, would we be able to get anywhere anyways?

I realize that what they're doing in the name of control and what they call peace is terrible. Even so, this isn't the time to get so emotional that you can't look at the situation calmly! Calling for mass destruction because you're angry isn't going to help anybody.

I'm not - I-I don't want to...

...sorry... but what are we supposed to do? If we don't use such terrifying weapons, can we stop them from doing the same?

I never said we shouldn't fight, or that we shouldn't use as much strength as we need to stop them. It has to be done. It's just that letting your emotions control you is harmful, as a soldier.

It's harmful in a lot of ways... a leader can only get so emotional before people go from calling them passionate to calling them immature.
