Magic Reveal Headcanon (PG Merthur)
I found this headcanon I had written on my tumblr!
Minor season 4 spoilers.
Arthur finally caved in and looked at Merlin. The worried face instantly melted away the core of his anger. Merlin really did look sorry, and still so innocent.
“Why didn’t you just tell me?”
“Arthur… I thought.. I thought you’d have me killed -“ Arthur shot him a hurt look. ”-Or banished at least.”
“I would never.. I couldn’t ever..”
“You banished Gwen. I didn’t think I even stood a chance. It was just so much safer to pretend…”
“I wouldn’t have. You’re not Gwen. It’s different.”
“I didn’t want you to think I would betray you or.. or harm you. I’ve only ever protected you.”
Arthur almost laughed at that. He’d just witnessed Merlin do great magic and the thought of Merlin ever using it to harm Arthur hadn’t even crossed his mind. The idiot…
“I know, you idiot.” He let himself smirk. “I’m only upset that you lied. I’ve been hurt so much recently. Lied to..”
“I know,” Merlin took a hesitant step forward with his arm out, looking as if he wanted to reach out and touch Arthur but stopped himself.
Then it was Arthur’s turn to move. He grabbed Merlin’s hands and dragged him in for a long kiss. Merlin gasped and then relaxed into it. They rested their foreheads together, breathing shallow. Arthur’s arms still holding Merlin’s wrists, but their bodies as close as possible.
“We’ll figure it out. All of it. Together.”
“Okay.” Merlin smiled and squirmed his way out of Arthur’s grip so that he could rest his hands on Arthur’s cheeks and kiss him again.
Arthur knew and it would all be okay.
