I am glad you think so.

I thought of it the other day when I was injured. One of the people who was fighting beside me had to withdraw from the battle to heal me. It was this morning that I realized how dangerous that could have been. To lose two fighters, even temporarily, is risky. So a team of healers was the best idea I could come up with.

I can heal, but I'm not sure I should leave off guarding the perimeter.

If you can fight the creatures, you should. I am sure there are plenty who are unable to fight that have some means of healing. If, while fighting, you notice someone in need of healing it would be simple enough for you to come to their assistance.
