You made me cry, partly with pride (you are truly amazing!) and partly because i worry about the struggle my friend has ahead. My best friend is starting mtf gender reassignment - I think that is the right terming, Im still kinda new to it all outside of the psychological education I have had with gender identity disorder. I hope that "Alison" has half the strength that you have. If he does, she will be fine.
the biggest thing that helped me was having friends that supported me by using the correct pronouns before my body even started looking male, they recognized me for who I am on the inside
btw, just to clarify the guy above is not me, I'm just in support of his cause and believe Facebook is still needing some education around this since they're still saying that post op trans male pics are "nudity" but male chest pics are not.
