Pairing/Characters: Masuda/OC, Masuda/Tegoshi

Prompt: # 93. TegoMasu as rain angels bringing people together like in the AiAiGasa PV
Summary: Masuda falls in love with a human that doesn’t seem to mind the rain, and Tegoshi watches them from afar.
A/N: I hope the one who left the claim will approve this the way it is.

”Massu, did you notice you have been watering the same spot for an hour.”

Tegoshi points out kindly. Probably, it has been even longer since Masuda sat down there and kept pouring water upon that one poor little human.

”She still keeps smiling.”

Masuda thinks aloud and sighs like he’s in a trance.

”Yes, but Massu, that is not our work. While you’ve been lazing around I had to do twice as much work as usually. Get up from there.”

Tegoshi frowns. He’s slightly worried about his co-worker who’s been lately spacing out a lot more than anyone should. It’s not only the work outcomes he’s worried about, but also whether Massu falls in love with that exact human. They both know they’re not allowed love, that’s their fate which Tegoshi has since the beginning understood. He’s never missed the world below, but Massu keeps digging his own grave from time to time.

”Just a little bit more.”

Masuda hums dreamingly and Tegoshi can tell, if he doesn’t do something about it, Masuda won’t get up until the human will get inside.

Tegoshi gets his squirt and although it is one of the most cruel things one can do, he leads a guy with an umbrella to come and pick up that girl. Tegoshi gives the pair an empathic smile and goes back to his own business.

Masuda sighs and turns his back. He can’t help it, the bubbly feelings inside of him and the joy he feels everytime that girl smiles or looks up to the sky. It feels like she’s watching him and though he knows she isn’t, he keeps blushing in embarrassment.

Masuda knows he can’t have her. Masuda knows watching her hurts like the worst pain, but he still keeps watching. He still keeps dreaming, keeps believing maybe one day, too, he’ll be down there as a human.

But he can’t, because he already once died. He keeps forgetting that little veritability.

”Look, Massu, come here! I think here’s someone who might want our help.”

Tegoshi yells from afar enthusiastically, most certainly just to get Masuda’s thoughts elsewhere. It works, Masuda gets up with a smile and rushes to his partner’s side.

”Where, where?!”

Masuda exclaims and Tegoshi points little kids walking in line with pairs. They’re probably kindergarteners on a walk towards a funny playground, and Masuda gets immediately excited over the last pair who seem to be too shy to hold their hands. The kids are keeping a noticeable distance, but they still throw glances at each other shyly. The best part of it is that half of the kids aren’t wearing raincoats and those two are part of them.

”How should we do this..”

Tegoshi starts, but Masuda is already on it. He’s slowly bringing his squirt to the area and Tegoshi follows him carefully despite that he doesn’t know their actual strategy yet.

”Let’s make it only drizzle. Kids get excited over little drizzle, but for those two it can be good excuse to get closer, because nobody will pay attention to them.”

Massu explains. Tegoshi shrugs and decides to go with that.

It goes even better than planned. As the drizzle starts to approach them, the little girl seems to take its all benefits, and she lies to be scared of water. She clings to the arm of the boy who looks now like a hero, a proud hero who’s completely red from the face. They look adorable together and Tegoshi watches Masuda’s smile silently. That is truly precious, he thinks, and wishes he could tell Masuda that there is, actually one way to get down there.

They follow the kids until they arrive to the playground and then slowly retreat, so the children can have their fun. They don’t want to ruin their playtime. A slide and swings are no fun if they’re wet, it’ll only lead to an unpleasant flu.

Masuda goes watering flowers after that. They searched for more people but decided to leave something also for the fate to decide.

It’s their break and while Masuda uses it for caressing the nature, Tegoshi keeps watching him and pondering, if he should tell him despite the downsides. He knows during his past life, Masuda never got to experience love. Masuda has never kissed, never felt the warm feeling as someone brushes fingers against yours. Tegoshi knows Masuda will be locked in that prison for infinity, craving for those things he never had time to learn about. He knows he can never give Masuda any of that.

It’s funny how all their feelings haven’t disappeared. They never sleep, feel hunger, cold or warmness, but everything that once was inside of them is there still.

Neiher one of them doesn’t know if it’s a gift or a curse.

The break hasn’t ended until someone seems to be standing in the outside again. Masuda trembles, he can feel there’s something he should be looking at, and he rushes to the other side to meet his favorite. Dreamingly, Masuda starts pouring water upon that girl, and they both seem to start smiling goofily.

Tegoshi wonders if he’s imagining it, but from afar it looks like they’re actually spending time together. It’s silly, of course that is not possible, and he decides to do what he always does, sigh heavily and turn his back.

”I wonder if you’re happy.”

Masuda whispers as the girl starts walking away from him.

Hours after it has become dark and Tegoshi’s tugging Masuda’s sleeve telling him they have to continue their journey. They’re not actually angels who take care of watering the nature, there are clouds for that. But they don’t work as cupids during nights. They are meant to follow the sun and bring love to everywhere in the world.

Masuda knows they’ll meet again next week and he’s willingly going ahead. At that part Tegoshi hesitates one more time.

”Massu, I think you should.. stay for tonight.”

Masuda stops and he looks at Tegoshi, more confused than he’s ever been.

”You know.. There’s something I haven’t told you.”

Tegoshi bites his lip. It’s hard to speak, he feels quilty that he hasn’t told this before.

”There is actually a way... to get a connect. It’s not that easy, but completely possible. You just have to be perfectly concentrated ..”

”Um, Tegoshi, have you gone nuts? I can’t understand anything you’re saying.”

Masuda laughs and gets a slap against his forehead as a reward.

”Listen! That girl down there, you can meet her. You have only one night, though, so use it wisely. I will not give you another opportunity. Probably even giving it now is a mistake...”

Masuda has frozen, and he shakes Tegoshi’s arm to make him keep going.

”It’s through dreams. We actually can fall asleep if we want to. It automatically connects us to a space that’s between our world and hers. Anything can happen there, anything. You can try to concentrate youself to pop up right in front of that girl’s front door, but don’t blame me if you end up to the other side of the planet.”

Tegoshi talks and the grip on his arm is getting tighter. Masuda looks almost tear-eyed and he’s not sure if he can believe any of this. Tegoshi doesn’t lie, but the possibility seems as absurd as their existence does for humans.

”I’ll wake you up with rain as I come back. Go do what you has to.”

Tegoshi sighs and because Masuda doesn’t ask any more questions, he leaves. If he’s going to work the next day all alone, he’s already late. This probably means they need to skip couple of countries, and Tegoshi feels already bad that he’s made so many people unhappy just to give little chance of love to Massu.

-

”You’re not wearing shoes.”

”Eh?”

Masuda looks down at his feet and realizes that in fact, he isn’t. He looks up again and meets a beautiful face that watches him back with disgusted face.

”And.. is that bad?”

Masuda asks nervously. He doesn’t want that girl to look at him like that.

”Well, I don’t kiss guys who don’t wear red shoes.”

She states and sniffes his nose. Masuda thinks it’s cute and that he loves her. He loves her. Then he realizes it’s the girl he’s been watching for years, the girl who gets all the rain. Masuda looks at her more closely and sees a wet hair, pair of sparkling eyes that look dissatisfied, but also playful.

”You want to.. kiss me?”

Masuda asks, hesitantly, and holds back a shy smile.

”Well, I don’t know! I just don’t kiss guys who don’t wear red shoes!”

She exclaims and throws an grumpy glare at him. Masuda bites his lip and tries to think of a way the girl will kiss him, although he’s not sure why they should kiss. It just feels important right there and then. Masuda looks around him, but sees nothing that can help. They’re surrounded by white, all over. Masuda can’t see the ground, the sky, they’re just like drafts on an empty paper.

”But..”

Masuda starts and looks back at his feet.

”I do have red shoes.”

He whispers and watches the shoes that have appeared there. It’s a dream. Right. He can make anything happen. The only thing he can’t seem to control is the girl who acts as she wishes.

”Oh..”

She breathes and they both stare at Masuda’s new red shoes.

Masuda thinks the girl still stares at them after five minutes, because he still does. He’s surprised as hands cup his face and he’s pulled into a soft kiss. It sweet, cute and innocent, but firm and compassionate. She lets go for air and they stare at each other’s eyes a while, and slowly both of them end up smiling.

”I’m Hana.”

The girl introduces.

”I’m..”

”I know who you are”

”Eh?”

”You’re the one who keeps giving me the rain that I love.”

She says and Masuda is baffled, his eyes starting to get watery. He doesn’t want to cry in front of a girl, but he can’t help it. He’s never felt this happy.

”I love you.”

He says shyly and looks at his feet, which seem to be bare again. He wishes the girl won’t look at them again because she can’t kiss anyone without red shoes.

”I love you too.”

She smiles and looks up to the sky. Masuda does the same and sees the black clouds that have appeared. He can feel a raindrop fall upon his nose.

Is it Tegoshi? Has he already come?

Masuda don’t want it to end here, so he grabs the girl’s hand and leads her underneath a shed. They sit down close to each other and listen the rain turning heavier.

”It’s my partner.”

Masuda says gloomily, tightening his grip around the girl’s hand. She looks at him and frowns.

”His name is Tegoshi. We take care of the rain that brings lovers together. It’s our.. job. I think he wants me back already. He doesn’t like humans anymore for some reason. He doesn’t want to talk too much... Once I asked him about it and he said he’s happy the way things are now, his love has died and they can be together forever this way. ”

Masuda laughs awkwardly, and the girl next to him also smiles to it. They look into each others eyes and go silent.

”Can I.. kiss you?”

Masuda breathes all sudden. The girl nods, as dreamingly as Masuda has used to watch him, and he leans in to kiss her one more time. It’s melancholic but nice. It’s long and lingering, and as they part, there’s no need for anything more.

”I.. promise to find you this world’s best guy.”

Masuda whispers, his head low and grip loosening.

”Thank you. Massu, too, someone back there is waiting for you to come home. Look around yourself and you see someone’s heart is also aching for your love.”

”Eh?”

Masuda don’t quite get it, but he doesn’t have time to ask. The moment has passed and he’s back, lying on the clouds and watching the dark space above. He gets up and sees Tegoshi sitting in front of him. He’s smiling shyly and for the first time Masuda sees that it’s not only empathy, it’s a lot more deeper gaze. For a second he feels how much it hurts Tegoshi, and he can’t look at him in he eye.

They stay silent a long time, until Tegoshi squirts some water against Masuda’s face and the boy almost chockes in surprise. Tegoshi gives a mischievous smile and they both laugh.

It’s fine now. Everything is fine now.
