Nanako is...well, she definitely isn't a typical six year old. After her mother died, she had to take over a lot of responsibilities of the household in her place. Nanako cooks, she cleans, she does laundry, and she even does the grocery shopping. Because her mother is dead and her father is always busy with work, she's had to grow up quite a bit and takes on quite a lot of responsibilities, making her very independent. When Souji first meets her, she doesn't seem very much like the little girl she is. It isn't until the two get closer that you actually see the childish side of the girl.
Nanako has a very complex relationship with her father. As he's the only parent in the household, and his job takes a lot of time, Nanako doesn't receive a lot of attention from him. A lot of the time, he isn't home or around, leaving her feeling a mixture of hurt and anger. She wants him home with her, yet she understands he has an important job to do. She craves his attention, so when he gets home and he busies himself with something else, or in some cases, falls asleep, it's not hard to see how it upsets the little girl. When Ryotaro promises to take them on a family trip, she's overly excited, but she honestly isn't surprised when it calls if off for work. She worries deeply about his safety, too, especially since she's already missing her mother. At times, she can even be a bit harsh with the man, hitting him, and even yelling at him, which she doesn't really do with anyone else.
Nanako's very shy and quiet around people she doesn't know, making it awkward when Souji first joins the Dojima household. It takes time, but Nanako does warm up to him, giving him the affectionate nickname of 'big bro'. She's the same with pretty much everyone. She's soft spoken around new people, and sometimes even hides behind others, such as her dad, and even Souji. She clings to the familiar, at least until she grows to know the strange person. Nanako's the same way with Souji's friends, but has grown fond of every one of them that she's met.
Though overly mature for her age, she's still a little girl. She's curious about all sorts of things, and often asks a lot of questions about death (one can only imagine this is spurred up because of all the murders occurring in Inaba, on top of the death of her mother). She's still on the naive side, always assuming that Ryotaro and Souji are fighting, even when no voices are being raised. She enjoys playing games, like all kids do, and she especially catches on to the fads of the time. She loves the theme of the supermarket, Junes, and idolizes the store. Another thing that shows her younger side is when she's watching TV. She finds the news boring, and quickly changes it to game shows, if she has her way. She also is fascinated by magic tricks.

Nanako has no abilities, unless you count utter adorableness as one. However, she is able to cook, clean, and do a lot of things normal six years old can't do.
