Wow, that was a really, really great fic! Wonderful, the way you gave all the characters and relationships a modern twist. The company setting works very well, I think. I cant wait for the next chapter!

Thank you so much! Hopefully the next chapter will be up before too terribly long. I just have to get past this little business of, IDK, writing it? Thanks for reading and dropping me a line!

OH MY GOD! I- I LOVE THIS SO! My bb Mary, angsty, resentful, beautiful Mary, and you just made her so amazingly tragic, and this is amazing. And augh, the writing is gorgeous.

and a color that makes her look like she glows, like she’s got lights pressed up beneath her skin and at the sharp edges of her bones.
That is some gorgeous imagery right there.

And some of your characterisation is just so spot on and brilliant and updated. And I have so much love for this right now. I love how bowled over Matthew is by her, and how sad Mary is. And just generally everything this fic is choosing to be.

I am also supposed to be reccing ten M/M stories over at would you mind if I included this as it is now one of my most favourite things and I want the next chapters. :)

Modern AUs own my soul. Clearly. I don't know what it is - maybe it's how the characters are exactly the same but in a new environment that seems to FIT SO WELL.

(And I have to express my fondness here with yours that I love the idea of Mary and Anna being beffies. It's really perfect and I think they suit each other so well and compliment each other wonderfully.)

The bits with Robert and Mary kind of break my heart.

I am a sucker for AUs full stop, but modern AUs I especially adore, so I couldn't quite resist trying my hand at one for Downton. Thank you so much for reading and dropping me a line. (And yes, Mary & Anna would have to be best friends, wouldn't they? I think so.)

wow. I couldn't take my eyes away from the page. Your modern characterization was intriguing, and perfectly achieved. I just know I won't stop wondering what exactly happened between Mary and Robert in a world that surely doesn't judge women for losing their virginity out of the wedlock. I wonder why Mary dropped out. It was a very good idea, to set the events in 2004 so that Patrick would die on 9/11 - it makes a good parallel.
Mary's character, in particular, almost brought me to tears - there's actually more to it, a sort of weight I felt on me as I read about this beautiful, broken girl.
I can't honestly wait for the next installment.

Thank you so much! I had a lot of discussions with myself about when precisely to set it given other things I want to incorporate, but 2004 seemed like it fit for. And I'm a Mary fan from way back (actual favorite) and I'm sure it shows. Thanks for reading and dropping me a line!

This is wonderful. I've been wanting a Modern!Au for ages, but no one has ever produced, and I just about died when I clicked on this and it was wonderful from the beginning. Can't wait for more!

There are actually a few modern AUs on AO3, I think, but I've not read them. Thank you so much for reading!
