Tumblr MasterpostI woke up spread across my living room floor, blankets scattered along the carpet, Jack no where in sight. I will admit, I was freaking out. He wasn't exactly in the best state to be wandering around on his own..I was positive he was with me when I fell asleep, whenever that was, and now he was, POOF, gone. I ignored the dizzyness that rushed over my body as I stood up, eyes searching the rooms ahead. "Jack?" No answer. I did though, find a note; It layed upon the coffee table in front of the couch, folded into fours (If you're wondering why I decided to look there LAST, well, I really don't have an answer).
Sloppy handwriting spread across the page, taking up only half of the white paper. A smile tugged at the corner of my lips, as my fingers grasped onto it a little too tight.
Alex,
You passed out half way through Home Alone, so I'm guessing you were pretty tired. You looked like a zombie to be honest, and I'm glad you finally got some sleep. I just wanted to thank you, Alex. I'm really thankful I have someone like you in my life, even though I may not remember much. It's going to take some time for me to remember everything (it helps when you tell me stories), so please be paitent with me. I may fuss, get aggrivated, and I'll probably get super annoying, but I hope that doesn't push you away... Things aren't going to be easy, not for a while at least. Especially when it comes to us. I'll probably have the hardest time remembering what it means exactly to be a 'boyfriend'. But I'll try my hardest, because from what I can see, and the little that I do remember, I know you deserve the best. I love you, Alex. And when I said it yesterday, I really did mean it.
My mom came to pick me up, so I'll call you later. xxx
I'll admit, I was impatiently waiting for that phone call. Jack had promised we could talk about things yesterday (which never happened. We instead watched movies, ate ice cream, and cuddled on the couch), but there was so many things I had to ask him, and tell him.
What I really wanted to know, was why he had run away. Why he wasn't happy at home. Did his father beat him? No, that's silly. Maybe he wanted to go join a circus. A circus, really? Okay, so even I knew that was a dumb reason to run away. Now that I think about it, maybe I don't want to know why he left. Maybe he'll tell me when he's ready, or maybe not at all. Of course I'm curious, but Jack was, well Jack was Jack. He didn't really have reasons behind anything. He just sort of acted on impulses. Maybe that's what this was, an impulsive decision.
I hadn't heard the first two rings of my phone, simply because I was too wrapped up in my own thoughts. My fingers fumbled across the screen, hitting down on the 'accept' button. "Hello?"
"H-hi Al-Alex." Jack's voice echoed through the receiver. "D-did y-you ge-get my n-n-note?"
"I did," I said, hiding my face. "Hey Jack?"
"Y-yeah Al-Alex?"
"Do you remember out first kiss?" I asked, laying back on the small sofa that rested in the center of the living room.
The line went quiet for a while, a faint 'no' coming from the other end. "W-will you t-t-tell me ab-ab-about it?" Jack asked quietly, a sigh coming from his lips.
"Of course," I smiled slightly, closing my eyes. "We were sitting on your sofa after school one day, watching Home Alone." The younger boy laughed quietly, before allowing me to continue. "You kept looking over to me, thinking I didn't notice, but I did. After a while, it got kind of annoying, so I asked 'what?' and you said nothing. You just looked at me some more. 'Do I have something on my face?' I asked you, only to get a head shake in return. Finally, you looked away, focusing your attention back onto the movie. I shrugged it off, thinking you were in just some mood or something. Twenty minutes passed, and there you were, looking at me again." I laughed, recalling the day. "I asked 'what?' again, and then, you leaned in. Just enough so our noses were touching, not too close, not too far. I was freaking out, Jack. Because here you were, leaning in to kiss me, and I had no clue what to do. But, I leaned in too, and eventually our lips met. A rush of--of excitement came over me, and I remember we kissed each other for a long time. We didn't stop, we just kept going, until finally, one of us had to break free to catch our breath."
"I-I'm s-s-sorry I d-don't re-remember the-these thi-things Alex." He sounded sad, or disappointed. Although I couldn't physically see it, I knew Jack's face dropped, the smile long gone. "I-I w-want to rem-remember but i-it's so h-hard. Ev-everything is bl-blank. L-like it n-n-never h-happened."
"Jack." I sighed, covering my face with my free hand. I wasn't mad at him, I don't think I ever could be. Why didn't he understand that? "Jack, you're trying though, and that's all I can ask for. I know it's going to be hard, and it's going to take a while for things to go back to...normal. But I don't mind telling you our story, if it helps you remember. If you want me to stop-"
"N-No," Jack sighed into the phone. "I-I'm j-j-just sc-scared, Alex."
"Hey, I'm not going anywhere, Jack." It was true too; I couldn't afford to NOT have Jack in my life. "Are you busy tomorrow?"
"N-no. Why?"
"Because, I'm taking you out, Jack. And I'm showing you off to the world."
Author's Note:Uh, I've had a major case of writer's block. Meaning, this sucks. So, shitty chapter is shitty.
