Masterpost "Fuck... There's never anything on at three in the morning..." Alex complained softly to himself as he flipped through the channels on Jack's TV. He sat on the couch, his current sleeping quarters, not able to sleep a wink. He just kept thinking about one thing after another and in the end, he gave in and stayed up. He rarely slept well anyway. This was a normal routine.
He sighed at the lack of programmage as he flipped through informercial after informercial. "Fuck that. If you're not Billy Mayes, I'm not even going to watch your damn commercial, bitch." He said, quietly arguing with the TV. He didn't want to wake Jack, although he had wished he'd gotten to talk to the other boy more before he was off to bed. He still wasn't sure why he let him stay.
He jumped a little as he heard the floorboards creaking as someone made their way across the room.
"Why are you still up?" He heard Jack ask groggily, a hoarse tone lacing his sleepy words. Alex looked over his shoulder to see jack in his boxers, eyelids sagging and hair sticking up in every angle. Alex felt the overwhelming urge to kiss that boy, but he held back. Although, this was easier said than done. Jack was perfect eye candy, even when he was tired and groggy.
"I couldn't sleep." Alex said, finally answering the question. He looked back to the TV, expecting Jack to just go back to bed. He was surprised to feel the cushion beside him being pressed down as Jack sat next to him.
"Whatcha watching?" Jack asked, squinting as if he was missing something. Alex couldn't help but smile. He remembered this Jack quite well. He remembered having to deal with him in the middle of the night when the bus was moving and he couldn't sleep, leaving Alex to stay up all night with him.
"Um, well, it appears I'm watching a Bowflex commercial..." Alex said, laughing slightly. Jack just kept looking at the screen.
"They have the creepiest people on these commercials..." Jack commented, yawning afterwards.
"You should go back to bed." Alex insisted, not wanting to keep the raven haired boy up too much longer. Jack just looked at him with a minute smile on his sleepy face.
"You already sick of me, Gaskarth?" He asked, leaning into the older boy a little. Alex's heart beat faster.
"Never." Alex said, pulling Jack to him. He was surprised at how cold he was. "How are you not freezing with just boxers on?" Alex asked, letting his eyes trail over his friend's lanky body. He admired the hip bones that jutted out slightly and the random scars from childhood activities. He looked up to see Jack staring right back.
"I am cold." Jack confessed, looking down at his hands and clutching himself tightly, shivering a little. "It just takes me a little while to register that I'm cold when I'm tired." He said. Alex frowned slightly and rubbed one of the boy's arms slightly.
"Um... Do you want to... nevermind." Jack said. And even in the dark, Alex could still tell that Jack's cheeks were red. He just knew it. He had learned to read the boy so well.
"No, you can ask me. I owe you everything." Alex said, letting the hand trail down to Jack's side. He didn't try to shy away this time.
"That bed is too big for one person..." Jack said sheepishly, completely forgetting about Tony. They didn't live together, but still...
Alex couldn't contain the massive grin that came across his face. "What do you mean by that?" The older boy asked, wanting to hear it out loud. He wanted to know Jack wasn't just kidding. The look on his face confirmed it, though. Jack looked so tired and cold. But not the cold that could be fixed by hoodies and sweat pants. It went so much deeper than that.
"Sleep with me?" Jack asked, breathing out as if he'd been waiting to ask for two years.
"Of course..." Alex said softly, hugging the other boy close, glad that he didn't pull away.

Truth be told, sleeping with Jack was just how Alex had expected. Jack was a cuddler for sure. Alex had definitely slept in the same bed as Jack before and he distinctly remembered the lanky boy constantly wrapping his arms around him in slumber.
This was much the same. Alex was facing the boy he thought he'd never see again. The boy he thought he'd never get an "I forgive you." from. Not that the forgiving part was completely set in stone, but this seemed to suffice. Alex couldn't fall asleep here either. He was too distracted by how angelic Jack looked while sleeping. He loved the way he slept with his lips slightly parted and not gaping. He loved how he kept a hand under his pillow and the other stretched out in front of him, as if he were grabbing something or trying to keep something with him...
Alex laughed softly every time the other boy made a small sound in his sleep. He mumbled occasionally and sighed, which made Alex melt like nothing else. He moved closer to the sleeping boy and pressed his forehead to his, taking him in. He could just look at Jack forever and he'd be fine. He ran his hand aimlessly over his side, not realizing until now how much he had ached for the other boy all these years. What he would give to just press another kiss to those perfect lips...
He cuddled closer to him, feeling suddenly cold and much too far away from the younger boy he adored so much. There was nothing to deny anymore. He knew he loved Jack and that was all that ever was. He felt completely idiotic for never noticing it before. It seemed ludicrous to have denied such strong feelings in the past. His heart just ached. But at least the boy was there now, within reach.
"Jack... I know you can't hear me, but maybe your dreams can tell you I'm here for real this time. No running away like a pussy again... I'm staying." Alex said, feeling his throat constricting.
He sure hoped he was able to keep that promise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning, Alex awoke to an empty bed. He felt hollow upon the discovery, but at least he had gotten to sleep with Jack. He could have been waking up to the TV and a crick in his back from that damn couch. He rolled out of the bed, feeling rested for once. He looked at the clock and was surprised to see it was only eight o' clock.
He walked to the kitchen, smelling something cooking, rather burning. He rounded the corner to see Jack swearing at a stack of pancakes, practically in tears.
"Fuck, fuck... fuck!" He cried, leaving the last one on the griddle, not even caring enough anymore. Alex frowned, embracing Jack from the back. The taller boy jumped a little, but relaxed in his embrace.
"M'sorry... I burnt breakfast." Jack said, his voice giving out. Alex laid his chin on Jack's shoulder.
"It's fine... they're not that burnt." Alex said optimistically at the charred pile. He took one off the top and took a bite, trying his hardest not to grimace at the taste. "See? Just put some butter and syrup on this bad boy and it's perfect." He said, swallowing gratefully, but a little nauseous at the prospect of having to eat half the stack to make Jack feel better.
"Alex... You know I'm a shitty cook." Jack said, not fooled by Alex's little pep talk.
"Okay, you are, but that doesn't mean you can't learn." Alex said, laughing as Jack gave him a dirty look. Alex took a box of cereal out of the pantry and then the other essentials for cereal "making".
"Here, show me what you got." Alex said, looking at the materials laid out. Jack smiled a little, which was enough.
All was going well until Jack pretty much spilled milk all over the counter.
"Fuck!" He cried, covering his face to keep from yelling at the top of his lungs. "I-I... I can't do anything right. I ruin everything I touch." He said shakily, looking at Alex with huge watery eyes.
"Jack... You don't ruin anything." Alex said, hugging the boy. "You make everything more bearable, in fact." He disagreed. Jack wiped his eyes and considered wiggling out of Alex's grip and being mad at him, but he didn't. He stayed put and hugged him right back.
