masterpost tumblr “Daddy, who's this?”
Alex picked up the photo album off the
floor from where he was seated on the couch. It was the faded picture
Alex had put of his freshman year back in England. He had ridiculous
bleached surfer hair and thick almost-black eyebrows. He thought back
to those times almost a decade ago and laughed outloud.
“Nathan, that's me! Don't I look
great?” He said while placing the album back on the floor.
Nathan burst into laughter, taking the
picture out and running to his room.
Alex stretched his legs out on the
couch and rested his head on the armrest.
He thought about how lucky he &
Jack were to be able to adopt such a wonderful kid. It could've gone
horribly wrong. So many kids end up hating their gay adoptive
parents, but Nathan loved and accepted Alex and Jack.
Nathan was a boy from the poorer
metropolitan regions of India. He had huge brown eyes with thick
black lashes that looked like he was wearing 5 coats of mascara. He
was a cute little boy, and they constantly got complimented on the
streets when they were walking with Nathan. Alex often thought about
what would've happened to Nathan if he and Jack had not adopted him.
He probably would've ended up on the streets begging for a rupee
along with the other kids, since his parents had passed away working
at the stonery. Thoughts of Nathan on the streets broke his heart, he
had gotten so attached to Nathan in the past 9 months they'd been
together.
Alex heard a pattering sound of feet
running and arched his neck over the arm rest to see Nathan holding
the photograph, with a big mustache drawn on Alex's upper lip. Alex
took the photo from Nathan and smiled. Imagine Alex had actually had
that mustache during freshman year though? Alex noticed the pieces of
tape on the corners and started picking at it.
“I taped tracing paper onto the
picture to draw the mustache in case you wanted the picture the way
it was!” beamed Nathan, seemingly proud of himself for thinking of
the ingenious idea.
Alex ruffled Nathan's head of black
hair, murmuring, “You are one clever clever child, Nathan.”
He smiled even wider and then asked in
typical childish mannerisms, “Does this mean I can have an extra
cookie at desert?”
“Of course you can.”
