Previous Chapters It was Sunday night, and Jack was round Alex’s house. He had been pretty much the whole weekend apart from when he saw Zack for a few hours on the Saturday. They were sat on the bed with Role Models playing in the background. They weren’t actually watching it; instead they were talking, getting to know each other more.
Jack had been wary of mentioning Alex’s parent’s divorce, but he did so reluctantly. He questioned the boy on how life was different and how it had changed.
“I dunno. I mean, obviously it’s taken some time to get used to. I was so used to seeing my dad everyday and then all of a sudden he’s gone, you know?” He said, looking at Jack who nodded.
“I still see him, just not as much as I’d like to, but that’s just because of him moving to New York. He didn’t even tell us why he moved there. We still don’t know and it’s been two months I miss him, though.” He paused for a few seconds, leaving Jack not really sure what he should do. “C-can we talk about something else?”
“Yeah, of course! Sorry.” Jack apologised, looking down into his lap.
“Don’t be stupid,” Alex smiled, placing his hand on top of Jack’s, causing the younger boys gaze to wander.
Alex didn’t move his hand straight away, and Jack could feel his eyes on him. About a minute later, Alex’s hand was gone and he was jumping of the bed, making his way to the door.
“I-I’m going to get a drink. Do you want anything?” He asked, hand reaching for the handle.
“Can I have some water?” Jack asked, bringing his legs to his chest.
“Oh, you’re so adventurous!” Alex rolled his eyes, stepping out of the door, dodging the pillow Jack threw at him. “I’ll be back in a sec.”
Jack let out a sigh as he heard Alex slamming around downstairs. He didn’t like Alex, did he? He couldn’t. That would be weird. Even if he did, Alex wasn’t gay so nothing would happen.
That’s when Alex came running into the room, throwing a bottle of water at Jack and hitting his arm.
“Ow!” Jack yelped, right arm rubbing the other. “That hurt, dick.” He glared.
“Sorry! You obviously need to pay more attention then,” Alex told him. He was probably right though, Jack knew that.
“What’s the time?” Jack asked aloud, pulling his phone out. “Shit, I better get going. I’ll erm, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Yep. See you tomorrow.” Alex got up from the bed before he enveloped Jack in a hug.
Jack didn’t really know what to do. He only ever hugged Zack. Even then, it was never like this. It took a few seconds before he reacted, quickly wrapping his arms around the older boy. Jack coughed and took a few steps back, smiling.
“I’ll see you.”

The next day, Zack picked Jack up again on his way to school, immediately noticing Jack’s smile.
“Who is he?” Jack’s head snapped around, eyes narrowed.
“What are you talking about?” Shaking his head slightly he turned to look out the front window.
“I know you, remember? I know what you get like when you like someone.”
“Well, you clearly don’t. I’ve got no idea what you mean.” Jack didn’t realise that his mood that much. Enough for Zack to notice at least.
“Right. I don’t believe you but it’s obvious you aren’t going to tell me anything.” Zack sighed, turning the engine.
“That’s because there’s nothing to tell.” Jack laughed.
The rest of the ride was pretty boring, apart from when Jack saw Alex walking on the sidewalk and began shifting dramatically in his seat, until his back was facing the window.
“Dude, what’s wrong?” Zack’s eyes quickly moving from the road to Jack and then back again.
“What? Nothing. I’m fine.”
“What was that all about then?” Zack waved his hand in the hope Jack would understand what he meant.
“I was just turning around.” He shrugged, biting his lip before looking out the rear window, seeing Alex slowly disappearing.

French and Chemistry dragged that morning, and Jack was thankful when the bell rang. Walking down the hall, he saw Alex turn and smile.
“Jack! Come over here.” He shouted, gesturing with his hand. Nodding, Jack made his way over to Alex and his friends, hearing them whispering at Alex.
“Why are you telling him to come over here?”
“Alex, what are you doing, man?”
“Just shut up, yeah?” Alex angrily told them, shaking his head.
“Hey,” He smiled at Jack. “Did Zack give you a ride in this morning?”
“Yeah, he did,” Jack nodded. He was fully aware of the group of eyes staring at him.
“I thought I recognised this,” Alex laughed, pulling the front of Jack’s green and black hoodie.
“Oh, I never saw you.” Jack lied. “I’m actually meant to be meeting Zack right now.” He mumbled, nodding towards the cafeteria.
“Oh, right.” Alex frowned. “I’ll let you go then. I might call you later, is that okay? If not we’ll just talk online or something, yeah?”
“Yeah, sounds good,” Jack told him, walking around Alex with his friends eyes following him as he did so.
“Since when were you friends with him?” Jack heard Rian say as he stepped closer towards the cafeteria doors.
“Rian, don’t be like that. I like him.”
The last three words made Jack smile like an idiot. When he reached the table that Zack was at, the smile was apparently still there.
“Oh my God, Jack will you just tell me who it is. You usually tell me.” Zack pouted, sticking his bottom lip out more than necessary.
“Yeah, I would. If there was somebody.”
Zack just groaned, muttering a ‘whatever’ when he noticed Jack’s eyes locked on something the other side of the room.
Looking over his shoulder, Zack gasped, head snapping back to look at Jack.
“You like Alex?!”
