Jack and Alex stayed in Starbucks for first and second period in the end. It wasn’t planned, they were just talking about anything really and before either one of them looked at the time, 2 hours had passed and so they made their way back to school.

“So, do you want to do something after school?” Alex asked as they turned into the gates of Dulaney. ”If you’re not doing anything that is.”

“Yeah, sure. What did you have in mind?”

“You could come over mine and we could just hang, watch a movie or something?” Alex suggested, quickly pulling Jack along with him as he ran behind the big oak tree when he noticed Mrs Jenkins walking through the car park.

“Sounds good,” Jack nodded leading the two into silence.

The two boys just stood looking at each other, small smiles on both of their faces as Alex’s hand made its way to rest on Jack’s cheek.

He took a step forward so that their toes were nearly touching and gently pressed his lips to Jack’s who responded almost immediately. The kiss only lasted a few seconds before Alex pulled away, biting his bottom lip as he smiled.

“Shall I meet you at the end of the day or do you just want to come over whenever?” Alex finally said when he heard the bell that signalled it was break time suddenly ringing in the distance.

“I’ll meet you at the end of the day.” Jack smiled, leaning forward to kiss Alex one more time. The two said their goodbyes and Alex leaned against the tree as he watched Jack walk towards the entrance of the school.

Jack made his way to Zack’s locker, seeing the older boy placing some books into the metal cabinet.

“Why do you look so happy?” Zack asked as he shut the door and picked up his bag.

“I’ve been with Alex. We went for coffee.” Jack told him.

“Coffee. How romantic,” Zack winked before pushing Jack forward slightly so they could walk. “How was it?”

“It was good, yeah. He kissed me again,” Jack said as a huge smile tugged at his lips.

“Oh yeah! I forgot about that!” Zack exclaimed, weird looks from those at their lockers making their way to him.

“How did I forget about something like that?” He asked himself.

“’Cause you’re an idiot,” Jack laughed. “I have a good feeling about this, Zack.”

“What happened?”

“He text me after I got off the phone to you last night and asked me what was going to happen next. Everyone knows that I don’t exactly have a relationship history,” Zack laughed and Jack punched him before continuing. “I just told him that and that we could talk today. Long story short, I got to school, he was by my locker, we went for coffee, he told me he wanted it to go ‘the good way’, after I did, we walked back here and he kissed me outside.”

“In front of everyone?” Zack questioned, one eyebrow raised.

“Not exactly. It was behind the tree outside, but I guess people would have seen if they’d been looking.” Jack shrugged.

“Wow. I never would’ve expected that from Gaskarth.” Zack chuckled.

“You’re still gonna call him that? Even though me and him are…” Jack trailed off, narrowing his eyes.

“Now you’re what?” Zack pushed.

“That’s the thing. I don’t know what we are.”

And thinking about what him and Alex were had Jack’s brain working overdrive all day.

4 o’clock that afternoon, Alex and Jack were once again sat on Alex’s bed watching Kick Ass. Alex’s head was resting on Jack’s  shoulder and their hands were linked together in the space between them.

“What are we?” Jack suddenly asked. He hadn’t been paying any attention to the movie playing on the screen the other side of the room.

The question got Alex’s attention and he lifted his head from Jack’s shoulders.

“Huh? What do you mean?” He licked his lips as he sat up and crossed his legs, not letting go of Jack’s  hand whilst doing so.

“What are we? Before we were just friends. We’re more than that now though, right?” Alex smiled, nodding as he brought their hands to his mouth and kissed Jack’s hand softly.

“How would you feel about being..” Alex paused, swallowing the lump in his throat as he debated whether or not to ask the younger boy, finally deciding ‘fuck it’ and just asked him anyway. “About being my boyfriend?”

The smile that instantly lit up Jack’s face told Alex the younger boys answer, but he waited until Jack verbally answered him.

“Really? You mean it?”

“Of course I mean it, stupid. I wouldn’t have asked otherwise would I?” Alex laughed, tightening his grip on Jack’s hand.

“And you don’t think it’s too soon?” Jack didn’t really want to ask that, but given what Alex had told him the previous day about not knowing how to tell people, he thought he should.

“No, I don’t.” Alex said bluntly. “And you don’t have to say yes if you think it is. We have time to find out if this will work or-“

He was silenced by Jack’s lips crashing into his own. Alex gasped at the contact and Jack took the opportunity while he had the confidence to slide his tongue into his mouth.

A few moments later and with Jack’s lips ghosting Alex’s, he whispered, “I’d love to be your boyfriend.”
