Part 1, Reflection: Thinking about literature, and having read Larkin's "This Be the Verse," do you think the poem fits some criteria for "great literature"? For example, do you think Larkin is dealing with a universal theme?

Your own conclusion to Larkin's poem was very interesting. I agree,to recommend to a teenager not to do something is infact inciting them to do just the opposite. So suggesting no kids is the only way to end all this mess only encourages them to have kids. Also, I hadn't known the 3 generation pattern so again we don't necessary have to pass on all our faults.

I enjoyed your response, and found what you said about the teenage angle an interesting one. I felt your response was well thought out and well written. From the little I read about Larkin, he didn't sound like much of an optimist though, but it still sounded convincing, and as a mom myself would prefer your optimistic view (than my more pessimistic read on it)!
