[02] Seeking Information [VIDEO]

[Crawford is sitting at his desk, gear turned on and glasses perched on his nose to better see the screen. In the background on the bed is a rather content looking Igglybuff playing with a pair of red sunglasses that a certain someone left behind last night ( Read more... )

... Well, there's those discs you can get in the Goldenrod Department Store... TMs, I think they're called?

TMs? I don't suppose you know more about them? Are they difficult to use? [Calling them discs sounds like they're a computer thing you can upload programs on.]

Sounds like I need to head to Goldenrod to check it out. [smirk]

[She shrugs.]

'Fraid I can't tell you much.

They're sorta like DVDs... but with instructions on 'em? Not a clue. They work like a charm, though.

Have you used them before? [It sounded easy enough.]

TMs and HMs... basically they are moves you can teach Pokemon. The only difference between TMs and HMs seems to be you can only use TMs once while HMs can be used many times.

[Cheerfully helping evil with no idea that it is evil. ^_^ ]

[THat was actually incredibly helpful. He almost looks surprised to be getting useful information finally.]

I hear I can get these in Goldenrod. Are they expensive? Are they universal or also separated by type sets?

[Good boy. >:)]

I have also heard that the TMs at least are sold are Goldenrod. I can’t say how expensive they are since I have not yet made it to that City. But you might be able to find a trainer around who will trade you a TM or HM.

Not every Pokemon can learn every move. I have noticed that they do tend to be separated by type and some times size. A tiny weak Pokemon wouldn’t be able to learn ‘Strength’ for instance.

How long have you been here? I'll look into seeing if anyone has one to trade. [Or steal. Hmmm.

And now he frowns and glances back at his Igglybuff. Kind of hard to imagine her being anything but a tiny weak pokemon, and he didn't have his precognition here to tell him otherwise. He was still hoping appearances would be decieving in her case.]

Very useful information [very much so], thank you.

Igglybuff... those aren't really cut out for being offensive. They're better at being a hindrance to the opponent.

Still, someone mentioned TMs, and there's those, but you'll want to choose wisely rather than load her up with whatever you can think of, for your wallet's sake.

[That's not what he wants to hear.]

I don't plan to load her up. One or two more diverse moves should suffice. I take it TMs are expensive, then?

Yes, and some more than others depending on the move they teach.

But I think it's good to keep in mind your Pokemon's strengths when choosing. You're probably never going to have an Igglybuff or any of its evolutions be a heavy hitter no matter what you do, so I'd suggest balancing her moves out.

Sound advice. [And already along the lines of what he was thinking. It's good to know he might be getting the hang of understanding this world.]

Looks like my first move is to start saving up some money, then. I appreciate your insight. Thank you.

Brad, did I leave my sungla-...

[stops in the process of barging in without knocking, eyes narrowing on the pink ball on the bed]

Leave those alone, pinky.

[crosses the room with a few steps and grabs for his sunglasses

[Since Inferno actually hasn't seen the insides of a pokéball since first being let out, he runs right after Schuldig.]

Char~!

[But it's Brad who catches his attention! Or better, the gear! He knows that! He waves his tail! Look what I can do, Johto! I burn!]

[Okay, now the next person is going to get treated to the view of Crawford trying to push a nosy little dinosaur away before his pants catch on fire.]

Schuldig, your pet. [come get him.]

It's not my pet, it's my partner.

[corrects and gets hugged by an excited charmander that points to the pokégear! Lookit, Schuldig! He's talking to people!]

Yeah, I know. Look at Brad, making friends in the strange new world.

[leans over Brad, one hand on his shoulder as he peeks on his screen]

Anything useful?

It's easier to catch more or buy eggs from people.

I do plan to catch more. I'm just weighing the usefulness of this one. [He can't quite imagine himself taking care of an egg.]

And catching is easier when they're asleep, like that one can do. She may become stronger when she evolves...if she evolves.

[He eyes his Psyduck for a moment when he says that. The stupid bugger doesn't want to become a Golduck.]

Yo, Nagilein.

[peering over Brad's shoulder and grinning at the sight of the duck-thing]

What's the problem? You and him just both got the cute useless pokémon that fit your personalities.
