Too late to say sorry - Part 7
Rosie re-entered the room a short while later laden with different goodies, chocolate bars, sandwiches and bottles of cola, she shared them between herself and her family, they all began to tuck in, but Sian simply picked up the cola bottle and began to fiddle with the wrapper. Sally put her sandwich down for a second “Sian love you’ve gotta eat summit”. Sian looked up and smiled “Not hungry” she said putting the bottle down and lying back against the sofa. Sally looked towards Rosie knowing that something, anything she could say would help.
“Sian like if ya don’t eat then when Sophie awakes you’ll like faint or summit and then she’ll have to visit you, plus ya know you’ll get so small and your clothes won’t fit”. Sian giggled at Rosie’s reasoning, however it did the trick and she peeled back the sandwich wrapper before taking a bite of the cheese and pickle sandwich that had been bought for her, she smiled. As everyone tucked in to their food there was silence.
Sian spoke first trying to break the new tension “When Soph and I did a runner there was a story to go with this sandwich, you wanna hear it”. They all nodded, desperate to hear Sian’s tales of being on the run with Sophie. “Well it happened the day before we returned”. Sian said letting her mind drift back to the day before Mikey came on to Sophie and they went back to Weatherfield.
(Flashback)
“Come on Soph, I’m starving” Sian moaned, “Got work again later please, please, please, ya know ya wanna”. Sophie turned over in bed and looked at Sian “No” she said turning back over “Sophie, I’ll be your best friend”. Sophie giggled “Sian you’re more than that and we both know it you’re my everything, and I’ll do anything for ya”. Sian sat up eyes lit, “So please do it”. Sophie mouthed no, Sian leant forward seductively “If ya do I’ll do anything ya want, anything”.
Sian smiled, Sophie’s will power faded she knew she’d walk over hot coals if she asked her too. “What do I get if I do?” Sophie asked grinning “Kisses” Sian said pulling her jumper on, the room was cold and musty, she wished that she could provide better for Sophie. “Mmm okay” Sophie said kissing her girlfriend. It started out sweetly, but then the passion began to take them over, as Sian touched Sophie’s stomach she moved away her body was tingly and Sian’s touch made her feel things that she had never felt before. “So, more kisses and touches if ya do”. Sian said knowing that Sophie would do anything she wanted. “Fine, but ya know I hate touching pickle, why can’t ya eat cheese sandwiches plain like the rest of us. I must love ya to do this” Sophie moaned walking down to the kitchen. “Love you too” Sian said relaxing back on their sleeping bag.
(End of flashback)
Rosie was laughing now as was Sally, Kevin smiled to himself “You got her to make you cheese and pickle sandwiches, well you have her well trained” Rosie laughed. “Sophie hates pickle, once I accidentally put some next to her salad on a plate and she pushed her salad on to a new plate to get away from it” Sally laughed. “She’s a one off our Soph” Kevin said joining in the conversation. All eyes trained on Sian “She sure is” she whimpered feeling the reality sink back in to her, may be all she would have now were memories, just feelings or smells that associated with Sophie. She felt an arm go around her “She’ll get through this, with us all here loving her and supporting her, how could she fail” Kevin said holding Sian close to him.
Time ticked by, it must have been at least four hours since Sophie had been bought it, the doctor had visited twice and nurses checked on them, but there was no concrete news. The frustration and helplessness was felt by them all especially Sian. She flicked open her wallet and produced a photo of Sophie, they had been to a photo booth and were gazing in each others eyes. “Can I see?” Sally asked, Sian handed her the photo, it was a moment captured forever, the love emitting from them both was immense and in that second she realised that their love was true, was real and more importantly was honest.
Sally handed the photo back to Sian, “You really love her don’t you?” Sally said as Sian put the photo back in her wallet “More than you know” Sian said wondering if she’d ever get to kiss Sophie again, touch Sophie again, wear in their ‘shoes’ again. Awoken by her thoughts the door opened and Nurse Ella stood there, “Sian, I’ve found out some news for you”. Sian beckoned her in with her finger and they all stood up “This is Sophie’s family, please can you tell us all”. Ella smiled “Sian asked me to find out Sophie’s condition, I have good news and bad news, please sit down”.
