Lauren was peering through a microscope for the hundredth time that day or that’s what it felt like to her. She sensed her presence there before she saw her, “Bo” Lauren breathed turning to look at her standing before her. “How do you do that?” Bo asked, “Are you sure that you don’t have special skills” she giggled “I do have special skills Bo, you should know that”. The two women gazed at each other for a moment, before Bo broke it.
“So microscopage again huh!” she said wondering around, Lauren sensed her sudden uneasiness, “Bo can we talk?” Bo stopped and turned to face the doctor again, “Yeah about that do we need to talk, can’t we just I don’t know not talk” she asked hopefully. Lauren shook her head “Bo I need to explain my reasons for...” Bo turned to leave the lab, “Bo you promised” Lauren called after her.
Reluctantly Bo turned back to her, “Lauren what we have. had was special, but to know that you were in my bed because the Ash told me, it hurts”. Lauren bowed her head. “Bo I have my reasons the Ash own me, I wanted to be there, for god sakes Bo I kissed you, I have wanted to kiss you in like forever”. Bo looked at Lauren, the hurt in her eyes was painful to see, Bo swallowed hard “Lauren we could have had something great, but not now okay, we are friends, and that is all we can ever be”.
“Okay” Lauren replied tearfully, “I’d rather be your friend then nothing else” she turned and left the laboratory. Bo stood there for a second convincing herself that it was the right thing to say and do, though there appeared to be an ensuing battle between her heart and her head.
Kenzi munched away on a burger as she waited for her phone to ring, Bo promised to tell her about the Lauren talk, she hoped that Bo would follow her heart, but her mind said that Bo did what she always did and run from those that love her. Kenzi realised that whatever the outcome, she would talk to Lauren and despite her reservations about the doctor and her motives for befriending Bo, she had risked her life more than once for both of them, plus Lauren had access to cool drugs Kenzi rationalised to herself.
Bo appeared at the door of the burger chain, Kenzi was serving a customer and left them for a second to ask Bo the inevitable question of what was said. After one look at Bo’s face Kenzi realised that the deafening silence meant more than any words that could have come from the succubae’s lips.
“Milkshake please” Bo asked following Kenzi back to the counter, “Flavour?” Kenzi asked, “Chocolate of course”. Kenzi made up the milkshake for her friend as the previous customer complained about pushing in, without thinking of the time or place Bo turned to the woman in the queue, “I’m so sorry for pushing in, if you could forgive me maybe we could..” she began to say taking the woman’s hands, the energy surged through her as she leant in and kissed the woman.
“Bo, Bo” Kenzi whispered as people looked on at the scene before them, Kenzi looked towards the door “Lauren, Bo..Lauren”. Bo broke the kiss as the woman swooned touching her hand and face “What about her Kenz, we are friends, okay she means nothing more to me than that”. Kenzi put her head in her hands as Lauren left the queue “Excuse me” she mumbled tearfully exiting through the electronic doors, Bo turned to hear hurried footsteps.
