Well... I've let my paid account lapse for the first time in years. I guess I just couldn't bring myself to sink the money this time around. Activity has been dropping off but worse than that people have been leaving/baleeting me with parting blows of "You didn't comment enough/aren't interesting enough!" thinly veiled under the guise of... I don't ( Read more... )

I've pruned my list occasionally... removed people who had been inactive for a long while and whom I'd added more for politeness' sake because I'd met them elsewhere than because I was interested in following them. It makes finding a username I'm looking for on my profile page slightly easier. XD

Also, I'm bad about commenting. Most of the time, I just don't have anything to say.

Sure, we've all had to prune occasionally. It's the nature of the beast! It is a little hard to explain but it's just so clear when people are more doing it as a social "stunt". Generally, it involves a long detailed public and backhanded entry about why they did it that they hope everyone they've taken off will read. :P I don't know why but it seems like these sorts of prunings have been a feature of LJ life since way back in 2002 when I joined.

I am also an awful commenter, but a faithful reader. That is especially true these days. It's so easy to peruse things online with the baby around but getting my hands free to type responses/emails is another matter entirely.

I guess I'm lucky in my little corner here; I've seen those announcements rarely, and when they cropped up it was just short announcements.

LOL! I think LJ always was my brain and emotion dump. Then my husband took over that job (poor man).

And back at you! You DO get to know people on these platforms. I think that's why this sort of thing gets on my nerves. Yes, one is unlikely to become super besties with a person you've only interacted with via blogging or other social network but you DO to some degree get to know that person. In real life if you no longer want to hang out with a person you stop hanging out with that person. You don't go up to them and say "Hey, you know that casual contact we have with one another? Yeah I'm going to put a stop to that HERE ARE MY REASONS. But it's not you. It's me. But really, it's you." :P

I still read ya too. Albeit not as well as I used to... sadly, this is a symptom of increased personal hermitage combined with a difficult spread across multiple blogging platforms. Honestly, need to post more, but haven't done it in... what, over a month?

I can feel you. I don't know if I've exactly hermit'ed but I definitely don't feel the need to get out as much as I used to, either IRL or online.

I don't remember if I ever got back to you re: KY. I think I have a date now. It's looking like around June 24th will be my Lexington time. Where else was it you said you might want to meet up?

Was thinking maybe NC, depending, but I should be able to get that weekend in KY somewhere, so I should be available on the 23rd or 24th (up to a point) should you be available as well.

I hate facebook. I use it for my family because inexplicably they ALL decided to enter the Century of the Fruitbat all at one time via Facebook. It's good for keeping up with folks back home but I honestly don't understand why it's THE medium. You can barely get a thought out, conversations are clunky, and Timeline? I don't even...

I prefer Twitter, and it's pretty bad too, but at least I can get my friends' lines without quite as much spam, and the spam I do get are mostly RTs of interesting news articles from Reuters or AP (thankfully).
