Just curious: Weren't you experimenting with paganism a few years ago? Is that unrelated to astrology in your mind, or was it more a social connection than a spiritual one?
i have been a neo-pagan since the early 90s when i first stumbled into it. and have been an atheist the whole time. and for me there is no contradiction between the two. although i was certainly more active in pagan/ritual circles before i left the US in 2003 than i have been since then. and more vocal in my atheism in recent years. anyhoo, my approach to paganism has never really been in conflict with my understanding that astrology is bull-pucky. but yeah, it would be fair to say that a significant number of pagan adherents do put stock in whether there sun sign is in whatever house... usually i just ignored those conversations.
I see. I guess the emphasis on equinoxes and solstices seemed to me to be related to astrology. But it is certainly possible to simply be rejoicing in the cycle of life without giving credence to the idea that constellations can predict the future of individuals.
