It takes a lot of time and a lot of long conversations to work out all of those little details in a marriage. Phil and I were together 3 years before we got married, so we had years to discuss all of those things. And we're still discussing things like how to raise children. Every now and again, we'll see something on TV or out in public and it will spark discussion. It's hard to transition from two independent bank accounts to one joint account, as well. It's nice when it's just your money and you can spend it how you see fit, but when you're spending the money that goes toward bills and gas and groceries, it becomes a different story. We don't have "me" money anymore. We always consult each other before we make any extraneous purchases and it works for us that way. You'll learn that the entire process is becoming comfortable with the concept of "us" versus the concept of "me" and making compromises with each other without compromising each other or your relationship.
I am very excited for you. Marriage is a truly wonderful thing!
