I just joined Puzzle Pirates -- what do I need to know, and who should I hook up with in-game?

Oh gracious I *adored* Puzzle Pirates. I only stopped playing because I kept getting sucked into it, and I'd suddenly find myself running shops, or supposed to be turning up for a four hour blockade.

It autopicked 'Sage' for my ocean. Don't know if I care enough to try to argue it out of it.

I can't do crafting puzzles right now without a Labor Badge, which costs either real money or 10x as many game-munnies as I have right now, but I'll work up to it. Distilling looks distinctly fun (for my values of fun). I really like Rigging, though I'm not great at it; Sailing is right up my alley. Bilging keeps making me wish I could do vertical swaps, which you can't, so it's a little frustrating.
