Thanks for the heads up.

That is so spiteful! Why would anyone bother to do such a thing? I presume they must have got access to a moderator status somehow. Be interested to find out who and why and how.

I was surprised to see no one else on my flist had mentioned it, me being a serial lurker and all. I'm glad I managed to bring it to the attention of others. It's weird that someone would bother to hack a fanfiction archive, somewhere that's there's clearly no money to be had, which is why I wondered if anyone had heard of this before. I suppose it could have been an virus or something.

Anyone heard of this happening before? Does anyone know who's doing this?

I put the phrase "Hacked by Cilgin_HaCKer - ercu_145 - RedRolix" into Google and it brings up 35 pages of sites with the same sig, so I'm guessing it must be a fairly malicious and fast spreading virus.

I tried putting it into Google earlier, and it only put out a couple of useless sites, but now I realise it's on UK only pages, which won't help. It's ridiculous. What's the point?! If it's a virus, at least there's a chance someone will be able to stop it easier, though.

It's appalling, isn't it? I think it's just titles that were hacked. What a mess.

It really is. What could someone hope to gain from hacking a place like SoA is beyond me! At least they didn't replace chapter text as well, I suppose, though that's hardly a consolation... I hope it didn't take too much to sort out and sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

Seems to be a serial hacker, base of operations seems to be Turkey.

Oh dear. Again, though, what can they have thought to gain? Especially on a site where every author has a disclaimer saying that nothing is theirs! Seems the most random of choices. I hope you didn't have to spend too much time sorting your stories out.

*laughs* Considering that the site owner of SOA asked me to remove my stories over three weeks ago? My time in 'sorting out my stories' was already invested in uploading all of them to The Last Ship.

Same hacker hit auto body shops, a law school literary magazine, medical supply companies, 'Battlebots,' and numerous sites overseas. It seems to have been automated, directed against sites with a particular security flaw, and random.
