Hello, BROADWAY. (horsey rant)

I HAVE BEEN REMISS.

MY RESEARCH WAS FLAWED, FULL OF GIANT HOLES, ETC. WHAT WAS I THINKING?

It has come to my attention recently through a bunch of flipping around various places that Imperial Council does not deserve to be as high up on my top ten as he was. Why not? Because the other horse I was considering for a spot HAS ALREADY BEATEN HIM. D< REVISION:

1. Old Fashioned: Lovely, gorgeous, Cinderella Story of the century, awesome.
2. Beethoven: Fights like a little demon.
3. Square Eddie: Canadian-born, brilliant on turf and synthetic, sired by Smart Strike, just show me dirt.
4. Stardom Bound: Super filly! 8D
5. Donativum: Nooo, come back! Back to America with you! You and your Tetrarch spots!
6. Vineyard Haven: Sheik Mohammed, kindly stop exporting all our good babies.
7. Midshipman: See above.
8. Giant Oak: Fights like a little demon. With Beethoven. After a wide trip.
9. Hello Broadway: Begone, Imperial Council! Okay, no, seriously, LOOK. There he is, fighting Imperial Council into submission. Add a couple of bullet works and a half brother named Nobiz Like Shobiz and I am well and truly SOLD. Bring on the Hutcheson. >D
10. Friesan Fire: Moves up from eleventh to boot out Uno Mas after winning the Lecomte as a result of finally learning how to rate effectively. Yay.

You know, I'm noticing a trend with this crop: good, old-fashioned, down and dirty streetfighting. And that is a GOOD THING. I mean, Old Fashioned's debut was anything but easy, and he had to make three bids at the leader before he wore him down. Beethoven's never had it easy in his longer-than-usual-for-a-horse-his-age career, Square Eddie doesn't understand the meaning of giving up, Stardom Bound rolls from impossibly wide, Donativum's been known to shoot through openings narrower than he is, Vineyard Haven's just plain brilliant, Midshipman's not afraid of anything, Giant Oak says screw you wide trips and bulldozes anyone in his way, Hello Broadway's subdued the big bad wiseguy horse, and Uno Mas recently put Friesan Fire in his place, with the third-place horse a good dozen lengths behind. And that's not all.

I predict an exceptionally entertaining Derby trail.

top ten, horse, rant, old fashioned, thoroughbred, racing, kentucky derby
