blue velvet is in fact blue velvet. the storyline is simple and weak. the acting is over dramatic amd sometimes downright bad. but it's all about the disgusting bile seething beneath the surface of suburbia and it's all about moods and emotions. like, go back and watch that scene where ben sings roy orbison while frank booth kicks the shit outta the kid. or the scene where he brutalizes whatsherface while they have sex and then waay later she's naked and bloody in his house with his mom and she says "he put his disease in me" and how about that fucking ridiculous tinkly song that sounds like a big palace made of crystals and a unicorn that is being played on when he and the blond slowdance. that movie is fucking crucial. and i hated it the first time i saw it, although i was thirteen and i chalked it up to me being only thirteen. cause when i saw it a little after that is recognized it's brilliance. you also just might not be into david lynch.
