I'm actually not a big fan of Howl. But I really like "A Supermarket in California" and another poem which I forgot the name of about being at a party, and it ends with the police lights outside shining through the trees. I like him more as a lonely gay poet than as an activist.

haha i just wrote my paper about ginsberg's politics. it's funny- as he became more politically active, his poetry turned to shit. i really like "Sunflower Sutra". all of "Reality Sandwiches" is pretty good too. and yes, "A Supermarket in California" is great,

Yeah, that's what I think too, but it's not what most people think. His political stuff is his most famous stuff. Howl has several books written about it, one of which was a best seller a few years ago and was EVERYWHERE in every poetry place ever.

his political stuff is TERRIBLE. he wrote "ballad of the skeletons", which is literally like "said the skeleton president no i won't / said the congress 'yes you will'". fucking terrible!

howl is definitely still infinitely more popular than any of his other stuff. at least, i'd like to think so after having to read his shitty poetry in the 70's.
