Whenever I'm discussing religion with anyone, I notice there's a vast difference between their reaction when I say "I don't have a religion" and when I say "I'm an atheist". They mean the same thing! And then afterward it always gets construed, like someone says "even if you believe in atheism..." ugh, it's not that at all. It's a lack of belief.

Judaism is a religion and nothing more. It is just like Christianity, which originated in Rome. You wouldn't call all Romans Christian, so you can't claim Judaism as a race. Judaism is a religion. The race that corresponds is modern-day Israel. I have a serious nitpick when people get the language confused with the country confused with the religion. Israelish is not a language. Hebra is not a country. Raaaaaage.
...but uh. 8D; I've never really gotten any shit for being an agnostic/a bad Jew (oh god I'm the worst Jew aliiiiiiiive). And I've never even really met serious Bible thumpers. I guess I was relatively lucky, even though I commute to a city daily which is currently having a huge ATHEISM VS. RELIGION debate going on via huge-ass advertisements. XD

Anyway, I know, right? It doesn't make too much sense to me, but I remember learning it in history like two years ago. Wasn't it the Nazis that classified Judaism as a race? My friend argued that she didn't follow Nazi principles and therefore Judaism isn't a race, but I thought it was the generally accepted thing, because of similar genes and such. I don't know very much :[ And you're not an ass to disagree! I'm honestly interested.

At this point, I think that "similar genes among all Jews" is kind of debunked, because Judaism is the oldest religion, as far as I understand (certainly older than Christianity, but I don't know about Islam or Buddhism or what have you). Judaism has been around for so long that many Jews who spread out around the world and married the natives there are just really convoluted down the lines. I.E., my family originated in Israel, then it kind of...somehow moved away and started breeding with random people. (Despite this, though, we managed to stay good, religious Jews until Stalin started kicking them out. XD)

I eat pork. ...yeaaaaaah. But bacon is so delicious
I try not to get into debates on religion adn things myself. I don't know enough about my own religion (small-town girl, no Temple, nearest temple's Rabbi was an asshole), and since I'm in Kansas, I just smile and nod and try to ignore people.
