March of the Pigs

How come the dumbasses seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately? In the last three years, I've gone to more baseball games than the rest of my life combined...and something is becoming abundantly clear to me:

A healthy chunk of people are going to Toronto Blue Jays games for no other reason than to get good and plastered, and then make total ( Read more... )

Well, looks like they're not getting people to the game at all, maybe because of the morons of which you speak. Only 16000 out last night? yikes.

16,000 for a mid-week game that ISN'T against Boston or New York...colour me surprised.

Welcome to Toronto: Where Apathy Runs Wild.

That sounds like when my town had the ECHL hockey league when I was a kid. The were quite the droves of drunken not-so-spectators, which was kind of hard to comprehend at age eight. One time I got an entire 16 oz cup of beer poured on me accidentally by a rowdy guy in the row in front of me. That guy, then, got quite the ass-kicking from my mother, and a nice security guard sent us all home before the second quarter.

Hey, when's the next few games you're going to? Nic and I would love to join you. We went last year to a game at the end of the season and had a (non-drunken) blast.

Right this moment I only have a single ticket in my pocket for a game in early May. But I'll keep you guys in mind...

What do you say to a nice Sunday afternoon affair around the end of May? Ought to be more fun with the roof open, no?

That sounds good. Let me know how much tickets are.
Oh, did you happen to get seats for Radiohead?

Yup. That's why I don't do $2 tuesdays. And usually why I avoid all Boston/NY series. And I try really hard to stay away from 'big' weekend games. I just can't handle being anywhere near a bunch of shitfaced losers for 3 hours anymore. If I wanted that, well, I'd hit a bar. It's not new, it just happens a lot more often than it used to. I don't know why, but I hate it.

It's gotten to the point where I love getaway days. There's NOBODY around, and I can actually enjoy the game in relative peace.
