When someone mentions 'summer,' Heechul doesn't think of the beach and ice cream. To him, summer is relentless and painful, three months of pure heat.

Jaejoong gets summer and Heechul thinks it's perfect. He's less than content with his own spring.

"Spring is for pretty things," Youngwoon explains to him, sipping a beer.

"Aw, did you just call me pretty? Aw, shucks Youngwoon, aw, I'm blushing!"

Youngwoon chokes on some beer, spluttering as he tries to cough and laugh when Heechul smiles and pretends to blush.

"Let me explain. You and Jaejoong are prettier than Yunho and I'll ever be. But Jaejoong isn't spring. He's too... well, it's just not him. Spring's for pretty things; flowers are blooming, birds singing and the butterflies are flying. Do you get it? Springs' for pretty things, but it's also a bitch because of hayfever. Spring's the pacifier between winter and summer which... okay I don't know why they gave you spring."

Youngwoon awkwardly shrugs and sips at his beer. Yunho enters the room and frowns at the can.

"What're you two talking about?" Yunho moves Heechul's legs off half the sofa and smiles at the pout.

"Why Heechul's spring."

"That's easy." Yunho encircles his hand around Heechul's ankle, fingering the bone. "Why else would they give you spring, 'Rella? Because it's when Cinderella tosses away her rags and becomes a princess, like when flowers are born from the death of winter."

There's quiet as Yunho gently strokes Heechul's foot, all three lost in thought.

"Ah," Heechul says. "I get it. But, you're not death." He frowns at Yunho, who shrugs.

"Winter isn't about death. C'mon, when it's snowing and there's a blizzard, you'd want someone dependable like Yunho."

Jaejoong enters the room at Youngwoon's words, stealing his beer and sprawling on the floor.

"True that," he adds. "I'd prefer Yunho over Heechul if I ever wanted saving."

"You're not even a damsel in distress." Heechul snorts.

Jaejoong flutters his eyelashes and flails a bit but splashes the beer. "Okay fine, I'm not. But it makes sense why Yunho's winter. We're all one of them for a reason."

"Then me?"

Everyone looks at Youngwoon and adopts their characteristic thinking pose; Heechul with his chin in his cupped hand staring intently at Youngwoon, Jaejoong looking through the window with his eyebrows furrowed and Yunho with his mouth slightly agape, looking over Youngwoon's left shoulder.

After a few minutes, Youngwoon makes to get up. "This is encouraging."

Heechlu can't help himself -- he shrieks with laughter.

"Sorry," he manages, still laughing. "But your face."

"Your face," Youngwoon says, automatic.

"You know my favourite season's autumn?" Yunho says, smiling kindly.

"Mine too," Jaejoong contributes. "It's so colourful and warm with all the leaves and stuff."

"You were the kid who'd jump on all the crunchy leaves, weren't you?" Heechul grins at jaejoong, who grins back.

"Guilty as charged, but don't deny you didn't."

"And when did I? Come on Youngwoon, are you really questioning why you're autumn?"

"Autumn's warm and comforting," Yunho says. "It's kind of like a fresh slap in the face after the heat of summer."

"Hey!"

Heechul darts forward and lightly slaps Jaejoong across the cheek.

"I didn't mean that," Yunho says, though he's fighting a smile.

"Bring it on, princess," Jaejoong snarls, leaping to his feet.

"Gladly," Heechul says. "Where's your knight in shining armour now, damsel in distress."

Yunho separates them when they begin slapping each others' hands, pouts growing.

"If the fans could see you like this," Youngwoon says and takes a photo.
